When do personality traits start to reveal themselves in your child? I would currently describe my toddler as fairly easy going: sweet with a dose of stubborn. I think that is fairly typical for a twenty month toddler. But last weekend, I took my daughter to Octoberfest in our neighborhood and I saw a side of her I had never imagined. She was dancing, eating unfamiliar foods, acting crazy and I wondered “Am I seeing a glimpse of the future? Is she a party girl?” She slammed a juice box (her first ever), got hopped up on Cheetos with her pal Tyson and danced the night away.
Is she going to be ‘Snookie’ from Jersey Shore? Is this child a future reality star in the making? I shudder at the thought, but this girl likes a crowd and loud music and staying up past her bedtime. She’s always liked a party. Some kids cling to parents and get easily overwhelmed; I don’t think there is a situation that has ever overwhelmed my daughter. (Except going to Stride Rite at the mall for her first pair of shoes. And that was because she had never had her foot measured before.) Even before she could walk, you could plop her down and she would work a room. She’s certainly never met a stranger.
This little lady even shocks her teachers. The other day at pick up, I was informed that Katherine was shushing other kids when they were crying in class. She would walk right up, put that little finger in front of her lips and shush away. I’ll take the blame for that; we shush our dog when he barks and so she learned that maneuver at an early age. And you have to be careful what angry words you yell at your dog, because it will come back and bite you, but that’s another blog all together.
Maybe this is just how toddlers roll. How should I know; she is my first. Right now I am hoping and praying this is just a kooky toddler phase. But in my free time I will be researching all girl private schools, because this Jersey girl doesn’t want the next Snookie or JWOW to be related to me.
