SouthPark invites local families and friends to gather on the lawn at Symphony Park to enjoy some sizzling summer entertainment! Every Friday from August 5 – 26, the mall will host Movies Under The Stars, a free night of movies and more, where shoppers can enjoy featured films, themed for families, under the stars on an impressive 30-foot screen. To jump-start the night, pre-event activities will entertain the crowd beginning at 7:00 p.m. including a live band. Tasty concessions and cold drinks will be available for purchase all night. This week’s movie is “Megamind” (G).

Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash
The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway

The most unique vehicles in motorsports return to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 13 for the 12th Annual Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash. Monster Trucks are typically 11-feet tall and weigh nearly five tons. Their custom-built, fuel injected engines produce between 1,500 and 2,000 horsepower. Powerful giants such as Equalizer, War Wizard, Brutus and Avenger have competed in head-to-head challenges on a radical obstacle course at The Dirt Track. Come and check out the Circle K Pit Party from 4 to 6 p.m.! Visit a participating Circle K and pick up any size Thirst Buster and exchange at the front gate for a special commemorative poster! Cost is Adults $25; $10 12 and up; free under age 12.

Passages: Green Wall will be unveiled to the public. Demonstrations will include a Japanese tea ceremony, Ikebana floral design, calligraphy, Japanese music, and more. From 26 July through 12 August from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the public is invited to watch internationally renowned bamboo artist and Ikebana master, Tetsunori Kawana, create Passages: Green Wall on the lawn of the Mint Museum Randolph for Project Ten Ten Teen. Created from straight and split Madake bamboo, the finished wave-like structure will provide a passageway accessible to visitors. Embracing Shinto philosophy and the belief that energy exists in all things, the artist hopes visitors will leave with a sense of well-being and connectedness to the natural world.Cost is free.
