Smarty Mom: Castonia Dozier

Smarty Mom, Castonia Dozier, is not your typical NC State electrical engineer. Following graduation, she pursued a career in information technology which allowed her to work in a variety of capacities including the most rewarding: a teaching opportunity with ECPI Technical College. At ECPI, Castonia developed a passion for education and wholeheartedly accepted the responsibility of helping shape the minds of our youth.

NewPoint Learning Center, a locally-owned tutoring franchise with 6 centers in the Greater Charlotte area, was the perfect fit and outlet for Castonia’s desire to offer a range of education services. As the center owner and director, Castonia’s vision is to provide an all-inclusive solution to every child’s educational needs, whether they are struggling or want to stay ahead. NewPoint Learning develops an individualized educational plan for each student and selects a highly experienced tutor to meet their needs. With this approach, Castonia ensures students will gain confidence inside and outside the classroom and give parents peace of mind.

Castonia is a wife and mother of two, daughter Simone, age 13 and son Cary, age 9. As a parent, she works hard to ensure her children are successful in school, but also well-rounded by participating in sports and scouting. She is a Richmond, VA native and has resided in the Charlotte area for over 11 years.

A good 120 minute Swedish massage…hahhah

Red Robin, love the atmosphere

Favorite date-night spot?
D’Vine Wine – good food, good wine, good music…perfect date spot and a movie without the kids is awesome as well

Nakato’s Sushi Bar

Cosmos followed by dancing

Favorite place to get a birthday cake/treat?
My mom’s coconut pineapple cake is the best ever! I haven’t been able to find any that come close.



Best birthday party you’ve attended/hosted?
Three girlfriends had a weekend here in Charlotte which included a play uptown, followed by dinner. The next day we worked off those extra calories with Andre’s Cardiofunk classes (not just 1, but 2). We celebrated with dinner and decadent dessert at Ballantyne Hotel Restaurant and rounded out the weekend with some fabulous shopping at the outlets in Gaffney, SC.




Best book you’ve read lately?
Currently, I’m deeply engrossed in How to Kill a Mockingbird. Nothing like classics.

Funniest thing your children have ever said to you?
My son would always say carrabudda when he was trying to say barracuda.
