Are you tired of having your kids covered in mosquito bites while trying to enjoy a beautiful afternoon in your backyard? Well, here is the solution – Mosquito Squad’s all natural garlic spray! I had seen all the Mosquito Squad signs last year but I didn’t want to use a chemical laden spray so we suffered through the mosquitoes all last summer. We tried ordering our own garlic spray online and we didn’t have great of results. It could have our lack of expertise in applying the spray, who knows… but then I heard that Mosquito Squad offered an all natural alternative. Yippee!! I was unsure how it would work since our attempt last year was not all that successful. I am happy to say we have been pretty much mosquito free for three weeks! The solution is 99. 3% garlic, 0.5% citric acid and 0.2% potassium sorbate, and doesn’t have much of an odor. I love garlic so I don’t think it would much of an issue if there was a strong odor.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the month of June with no mosquitoes! I highly recommend using the garlic spray from Mosquito Squad. They stated that the garlic spray is 70-80% effective versus the chemical spray is 85- 90% effective. Like I said, we haven’t had any issues so 70-80% appears to be good for us!
I would recommend confirming with them that you want the GARLIC spray. I was a little disappointed when they came out to spray that they started spraying out front with the chemical version. My neighbors and I were out back and they started spraying without announcing they were here. I went out front to tell them to hold off so everyone could get their strollers and leave. I asked if they were using the garlic spray and for some reason they didn’t have it documented as a preference. So, it is always wise to speak with your technician first. You can pay per application or save money by signing up for a series of applications. They spray every three weeks and I actually delayed them a week since we haven’t seen very many mosquitoes. This could change with all the rain we have had this week.
On a side note, if you need an all natural/organic insect repellent I found one by Badger that works well. It is a balm that comes in a stick form. You apply it like you do the face sticks for sunscreen, just not on the face. It contains essential oils, olive oil and beeswax. You can find it at www.diapers.com. Great buy to take to the beach, camping, etc.
I also found incense sticks at Earth Fare last year that work well if you are in a small area such as your deck or patio. They are called Colibri Lavender natural insect repellent sticks made by Maroma. These worked pretty well and smelled fabulous. There are several different scents but I tried the lavender and it was great. They are totally natural and safe and it they no longer carry them at Earth Fare you can order them at www.maroma-usa.com.
I hope this helps if you are having mosquito issues and you are able to enjoy the outdoors this summer! Let us know if you have other suggestions. Thanks for reading and be sure to mention CSP if you decide to try Mosquito Squad!

Burt's Bees also makes an all natural insect repellant that works great. I have not seen it in stores, but you can order it online at Vitacost.com.
So about how much does this cost per application?
Thanks for the info – I've been considering Mosquito Squad b/c I want our kids to be able to use the yard w/o getting eaten or having to be covered in repellent, but was weighing the whole chemicals in the enviroment vs. chemicals on my kids thing. This may be the perfect alternative. I know it's pricey, but I hate having to keep the kids inside during the only temperate times of the day!
You are right, it is a bit pricey but worth it for us to be out and enjoy the summer. It's $70 per application if you sign up for the rest of the season. If you want to do a single application or as needed it is $89. If you do it once to try it out, and then decide you want to do the series then they will honor the $70. I also just received a promo in the mail that said if you refer a neighbor/friend you get $25 off your next application and the referral gets $25 off as well. So if you know someone who uses it, then it's a good time to take advantage of the offer.
In South Africa I was given a product in a stick form called "peaceful sleep" and it is INCREDIBLE and smells great. AT the time I was so desperate that I did not care WHAT was in it and the label is in a foreign language. I've been using it for years and have not had any side affects and the women there use it on their babies/kids. http://www.peacefulsleep.co.za. Great Stuff. I brought back 10 sticks with me!!!
Thanks for the suggestions. Monica, I will have to check out this peaceful sleep product. It sounds great. Thanks again for commenting!
We started using Mosquito Squad's regular spray last month and we LOVE it. My son and I couldn't go to the car without getting bitten by mosquitoes. We had pretty much given up on grilling out. They're regular spray is made from plant extract so it's natural too. We have so much shrubbery in our yard so I really thought it wouldn't work in the dense shrub area. I went out with my new garden clippers last weekend and was able to garden again. I called them back again. I was able to sign up right on the web site.
We love the mosquito squad! I am so allergic to mosquitos and my poor babys are as well. Mosquito season has always meant being indoors at my house. We tried everything, home sprays from the hardware store, Orkin, zappers, everything! We finally tried the Mosquito Squad last summer and it changed our whole lifestyle. We can now bbq in the back and play on our front porch all year long!!
