I LOVED Ashley’s recent post on Favorite Beach Books, as I am always looking for new book recommendations. The only problem I have is actually finding the time to sit down and read a book … an adult book that is. My son gave me the idea for this post when he recently came to me with his sweet brown eyes, holding one of his favorite books, asking me to please read it to him … again!
We have bookshelves full of books, many in the form of Clifford or the Bernstein Bears, but inevitably, always seem to come back to our tried and true family favorites (meaning fun to read for mom and dad too!) So I thought it would be fun to list some of those fan favs, as well as get some new titles to add to our repertoire. These are some of our family’s top picks and we’d love to hear what yours are too!
Jake and Ryanne’s favorites:
Bear Snores On (Karma Wilson/Jane Chapman)
Dear Zoo (Rod Campbell)
The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear (Don and Audrey Wood)
The Kissing Hand (Audrey Penn)
The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Eric Carle)
Brown Bear, Brown Bear (Bill Martin/Eric Carle)
Hippos Go Berserk (or pretty much any book by Sandra Boynton)
Go Dog Go (P.D. Eastman)
Guess How Much I Love You (Sam McBratney)
By the way, keep in mind our kids are 5 and under so the books are reflective of that age range. However, as Jake is getting ready to start kindergarten and hopefully learning to read on his own, I’d love some recommendations for older kids.

Great topic, Tracy! My 2-yr-old twins are crazy about garbage trucks so my mom bought them a fabulous book that they have been obsessed with for months, it's called "I Stink" (appropriate) and is written by Kate McMullen. There's more in this series…I'm Mighty (tugboat) and I'm Dirty (tractor). They also both love the Fancy Nancy books.
