OK all you smarties, time to get the running shoes on, not just for Girls on the Run and the GBS/CIDP 5K & Miracle Mile but to keep up with all that is happening this Mother’s Day weekend. As we go around town, McGill Rose Garden and Daniel Stowe are hosting special events for moms and there are great craft programs at Lowes, the Mint Museum and Borders. A non-competitive family-friendly run/walk where everyone is number one. Whether you are one of our current or former GOTR participants, a family member, friend or just a community member who wants to join in celebrating healthy living. All of the proceeds from the New Balance Girls on the Run 5K in Charlotte will benefit young girls who may need financial assistance to participate in the GOTR Charlotte program, which educates and prepares girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Cost is $12-$15.

The Harris Y presents a delightfully royal breakfast, party favors, and of course autographs with the princesses as they make appearances throughout the morning. This is a wonderful Mother’s Day event, girlfriend get-together or Daddy/Daughter social.

Sir Purr, Lugnut, and Rufus will be there! Carolina Clowns will be doing face painting and balloons. There will be a kids craft table to make Mother’s Day gifts. Swoozies will be providing free gift wrapping for gifts purchased at Morrison. 107.9 and Bob and Sheri will be there live and providing music. Massage Heights will be giving free massages. Other sponsors include Strike City, Smoothie King, Chick Fiil A, Starbucks, Earth Fare, and many others! Laughing Buddha Yoga Studio will allow free classes that day to anyone over 16 with a bib number from the race! You can register online, or visit the GBS website.

Paint a postcard and write a message for mom or someone special in the style of the great Impressionists, and wonder at the works by Monet, Pissarro, Cassatt and more in the exhibit Masterworks from the New Orleans Museum of Art. Kids are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

The first 250 moms each day will receive a free potted plant courtesy of Rountree Plantation.
