Smarty Scoop on Weekend Activities: 5/1-5/3

Hello Smarties. It is shaping up to be a great weekend. Charlotte is packed with activities from the Quail Hollow Championship to all the great things just for kids! Our area youth are showcasing their acting talents at Children’s Theatre and at Davidson Community Players. Community celebrations are spotlighted in Matthews where you can dance the night away and at Town Day in Davidson. The Charlotte Knights are home this weekend and kick off with a Family Fun Fest. Ok, I am getting worn out just thinking about all the options for the weekend. Get out and enjoy!!

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents: “The Commedia Aladdin”

Hop on a magic carpet with Aladdin as he summons the powerful Genie of the Lamp and changes his fortunes forever. Fresh, fast-paced and full of physical humor. Performed by the Tarradiddle Players. Ages 5 and up. Cost is $14-$18.

Davidson Community Players Youth Theatre

Davidson Community Players opens The House at Pooh Corner this Thursday, April 30th with a dedicated to founder Constance Welsh. This is the first all youth fully staged production produced through Davidson Community Players youth theatre, the Connie Company (named for Welsh). It is recommended for ages four (4) and up. The House at Pooh Corner, directed by award winning director Melissa Ohlman-Roberge, will have eight performances through May 9. Cos is $7.00 per person. Family Fun Fest at Knights Stadium

Fans attending the Charlotte Knights vs. Syracuse Chiefs game should arrive early for this kid-friendly event just outside the gates. Everyone loves the spectacular free fan festival, which will open just outside the ball park three hours before game time. The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest features over 20 attractions including batting and pitching cages, bungee runs, super slides, bounce houses, a “rookie zone” the Great Clips Best Buy Mobile Video Game Arcade, a historic minor league baseball museum, and you can even put yourself on a free souvenir Days Inn baseball card and Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine cover. Dad and Kids Kickball League

Put a little “kick” into your family time – Join the Dads & Kids Kickball League! It’s a six week kickball game schedule. Games beginon May 16. This program is open to all kids ages 6-12 and their dads, plus it’s free. Sign-up on May 2 at Park Road Park. There will be lots of fun interactive games, inflatables and the Wii! Family “Out-Back” Camping Trip

Pitch your tent in the natural areas along our nature trail. Enjoy a bonfire, a real weenie roast, marshmallows and campfire stories. Learn about camping in the “old style.” Go on a night hike animals. Breakfast and a special live animal show are included the next morning. Families provide their own camping gear. Cost is $10-$12.

Town Day

Annual spring “Town Day” festival with carnival games, foods, arts, vendors and entertainment for the whole family. Other children’s activities will include inflatables, a sand box and duck pond. Cost is free.
