Happy Friday! I thought I’d start your morning off with a little humor … this story happened a week ago and I am still laughing about it! So – I went to pick our kids up from school, and went through my routine of going to the infant room first to pick up our daughter. The minute I walked through the door all the teachers started laughing and I was greeted with “Mrs. S! You would NOT believe what happened this afternoon when we were feeding Ryanne her bottle!!! She was sucking it down when all of the sudden we noticed something strange …….” They then handed me her bottle and my jaw hit the floor. There, settled nicely at the bottom of her little Playtex Drop-In was a miniature red plastic dinosaur!!! Yes – take a closer look at the picture – in fact, click on it if you want to see it bigger. Apparently her bottle was like a box of Cracker Jacks – with a prize at the end!!!
All of the sudden, I had a flash back to the night before when I was putting our almost 5-year old son to bed. He wanted to know where his dinosaur was … He ran out of his room looking for it, but came back saying he couldn’t find it. I kissed him good night and left the room. On my way out, as I was walking through the kitchen, I heard him yell – “Did you find it?” with a slightly devious tone in his voice. A quick look around and I didn’t see it so I told him good night and didn’t think twice about the dinosaur … until this afternoon when I saw it in her bottle!!!
How did it get there you ask?? Well, that night my husband had prepped the bottles for the next day with the powder and left them sitting on the counter, sans tops. Usually, we go ahead and fill them with water and stick them in the fridge but for some reason that night we only made it half way through the process. Jake must have slipped the tiny dino into one as he walked by on his way to bed. Nothing malicious, of course, just a 5-year old hiding his toy. Then the next morning in my husband’s sleepy state in the dark kitchen, he filled the bottles with water to take to school – unbeknownst to anyone of the hidden treasure that awaited!
Fast forward to feeding time … with the bottle turned upside down to feed the baby, the dinosaur nestled itself down in the nipple of the bottle. So it wasn’t until the very end that a tiny red tail started to appear above the formula. Can you imagine what the teachers must have thought?? Apparently it was quite the story throughout the entire daycare that day.
I am sure this is only a prelude of things to come! Share your stories of sibling sabotage … we’d love to hear!
