…Charlotte Smarty Pants! This is a week of remembrance, the anniversary of 9/11 and our beloved Jen B’s birthday. It is also a week of celebration for Charlotte Smarty Pants. Thanks to you, our Smarty readers, we won Best Local Blog, Reader’s Choice in Creative Loafing. The most incredible part of the story is the timing of the award. As you know, yesterday was Jen B’s birthday, a very emotional day for all of us. So as I was fumbling with html coding at 7am, an email came in from a girlfriend who saw us mentioned on Fox News Edge as Best Local Blog. I could only chuckle to myself because this was such a Bunich thing to do – send us all a little gift from heaven, a Best of Charlotte Award, on her special day reminding us that she is definitely here with us every single day on CSP.
So as you can imagine, we’re still gushing over this award. And we couldn’t do it without you. So thank you. Keep on reading and living Smarty. We love you!

Jen! You are so right! That was totally a Jen B. thing to do and I love that she is smiling down on all of you, all of us. She still gets her say on CSP in her own special way. As a friend of mine would say “that was a God wink”! I am so proud of you Jen! You are an amazing woman, mom, wife and friend! Jes
Congrats Jen P and all of your crew! You deserve it! That “other Mommy blog by the Observer” are total posers and really suck, so it would have been just terrible if they had gotten any credit, the Charlotte community knows that CSP is the first and ONLY Mommy blog! You all work so hard for all of the moms out there, thanks!
Congratulations to all of you! I enjoy reading your blog every day. A well-deserved award!
Congratulations! Well-deserved award to CSP! Anonymous above, please keep this blog positive and refrain from bad-mouthing other useful websites/blogs. We mommies need all the help we can get!!
Congratulations on the well-deserved award! I am constantly looking up old articles for information. I agree, the Charlotte Observer mommy blog is not good at all. And Finanlly, Happy Birthday Jen B! I think of you often and miss you. It warms my heart to read how you have touched the lives of so many.
Congratulations Jen, Tracy, Jenny, Dana, Ashley & Courtenay! What an honor and well deserved. You all provide an invaluable resource to the community. Keep up the excellent work!
Congratulations to all of you and all of your hard work. I know there is an angel in Heaven that is smiling and sharing all of your excitement.
First, I would just like to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that lost a family member, relative, co-worker, friend… on September 11, 2001. A day that none of us will ever forget and hopefully never have to experience anything like it again.Second, I would like to say that I can only imagine this is the first of many awards to come for your blog. I am a recent transplant and was terrified of “starting over” after living in the same place for 15 years. Everyone told us that Charlotte was a small big city and that we would quickly meet many great people and be happy with our move. I was completely taken by surprise at just how right they were. Within a week I met a few neighbors with kids close in age to mine and they recommended I check out your blog/website. That afternoon when I had a few spare minutes I logged on and have logged on every day since (except when on vacation), that was February 10. I read the site and my few spare minutes turned into at least an hour. I was absolutely devistated by the loss of Jen B. I am not sure why I was so moved by the loss of a woman I had never met. Certainly, the story was tragic but usually feelings and emotions of even tragic stories about a “stranger” fade relatively quickly. That was not at all the case with Jen B’s passing and I still can’t explain why. As the days and weeks went by and I continued to read your blog I began to feel as if I had lived in Charlotte for many years and was just catching up with old friends. I truly love your site, it is the primary reason me and my family had such a wonderful transition. You probably do not realize the significance this site has in so many people’s lives but it does. So please keep up your seemingly thankless work and make room on your office walls for the many more awards to come.
Wow! I had no idea you learned of this on Jen’s birthday. How cool. I have goose bumps. And, congrats to you all!- Katie
Congratulations!!!!
So excited for CSP! Jen was a dear friend of mine and this is totally part of her plan. She was amazing!

Fantastic. I am so happy for you all and all the success you have had. This is a wonderful site that has touched so many people and what a true blessing to win a great acheviment on Jen B’s birthday. I know she is smiling up in heaven. Congratulations to everyone at CSP!!Mary
Thank you all so much for your incredible comments and your support! To the transplant above, welcome to Charlotte! You hit the nail right on the head. Charlotte is such a unique city in that it seems like a small town with big city perks. In any circle of friends, it is six degrees of separation from every single person! So we all stick together and help each other out. That’s how this blog was born. We’re so glad you’re here and any time any of you would like to chat with us, email any time at info@charlottesmartypants.com. We get a lot of emails and we take to heart every single one of them! Spread the word and stay Smarty:-)
