When I find something I love, I can’t wait to share it with all my friends! So this week I’m excited to let you all know about Crisp 7th Street Café – a great little salad shop in Elizabeth. Crisp is located at the corner of 7th and Pecan and is the home of some of the best salads I’ve ever had!
The portions are huge and the prices reasonable ($6 – $8.50). My absolute favorite is the F.C.N. (Fruit, Cheese and Nut) salad – chocked full of mixed greens, apple and pear slices, blue cheese, toasted walnuts, and craisins then tossed with a delicious roasted lemon vinaigrette. I like to add avocado to mine for an extra special touch. My stomach is rumbling just thinking about it!!! But if that doesn’t suit your fancy, they offer 6 other signature salads you can choose from or you can make your own concoction with a wide selection of fresh ingredients ranging from artichoke hearts to fresh mozzarella and anything in between. You can also have your gigantic sized salad topped with grilled to order steak, herb marinated chicken or teriyaki shrimp. While I’ve only sampled their salads, they also offer a yummy selection of sandwiches. But judging from the tables of fellow patrons, the salads are definitely the more popular option!
Crisp is open daily from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and rumor has it they will soon be opening for dinner with an added wine bar. Warning — if you go for lunch, plan to go early! Head over at peak lunch hour and expect a packed house and a line out the door! It is well worth it though!! In fact, I’ve even been known to have a craving for my favorite salad and hop in my car from uptown to grab one to go!! And anyone who works downtown, knows what a pain that can be – so definitely worth it!! Check it out and tell them Charlotte Smarty Pants sent you. Enjoy!!

I am willing to try it again since I LOVE salads, but I will say the dressing on the FCN salad was not good and they are certainly not very kid-friendly. Perhaps a nice ladies’ lunnch.
The oriental salad ROCKS! Crisp is definitely a hot lunch spot. Tracey is right, go early. It is small and fills up pretty fast.
CRISP is YUMMY! I have tried about 5 different salads, and all were wonderful! The only problem is the portion size…who can eat all that – WOW!
Here’s a tip: you may not know you can order half salads at Crisp. They are still plenty filling! I am a huge Crisp fan – I have been known to eat there 3 times in one week! And I agree they are not that kid friendly. It takes a long time for them to bring the kids food to the table, although we love the sliced apples and pears they serve with the kids grilled cheese.
Yes, this is a great place for salads and yes it is great to just be able to order “half a salad”, however, do know that sometimes “half a salad” ends up costing only $.75 less than the whole salad. I am hoping by now they have consistent pricing as the the first five times of ordering the exact same half cob, I was charged five different prices! Yes, the price increased each time I went in. My advice, ask for the price before you order the half salad.
