Thanks to Claire B., a very smarty friend and mom of three, I have recently discovered the KABOOST! Basically, the KABOOST is a booster for chairs. Using adjustable spring-loaded arms, the KABOOST lifts your ordinary chair higher so that your little ones can eat at the table without a high chair or regular booster seat. I love the KABOOST because my breakfast room seems more “back to normal” and less “kid haven” than before. I also find it significantly easier to clean up after meals than when we used high chairs or booster seats. Now, I simply wipe off the table and chairs … oh, and use the Dust Buster on the floor for whatever my spoiled puppy didn’t deign to eat. The downside to the KABOOST is, of course, that your little ones are no longer strapped in. We have had a couple of minor tumbles off the chairs, but my twin boys seemed to figure it out pretty quickly. Of course, they are able to let themselves down, so when they decide they are no longer interested in eating, they can scoot on their merry way. The height does seem to be a bit of a deterrent, however, so they generally stay put until I wipe their hands down and turn them loose. The KABOOST is also quite portable, so I anticipate taking this on future trips to my in-laws … so that the boys no longer have to use the circa-1978 metal high chair procured from a long-ago garage sale. The KABOOST comes in a very bright green (I like it actually, but Claire referred to it as Chernobyl green), natural and chocolate. My kitchen chairs are dark brown, so I bought the chocolate KABOOST so it would blend a little bit better with the chairs. Claire found her KABOOST at the Pineville-Matthews BJ’s Warehouse. By the time I visited, there was only one green KABOOST left (at the bargain price of approximately $26), so I spent the extra money to order two chocolate KABOOSTs on www.amazon.com for approximately $34. You can find out more about the KABOOST at www.kaboost.com.
Thanks, Traci. Your recommendation came in at perfect timing for my household since my boys would regularly throw their entire tray of food onto the floor. Unfortunately for me, I have no puppy so I clean my floor 18 times a day! So I ran to BJ’s in Pineville and scooped up all of the chocolate KABOOSTs I could find. I needed three to outfit my fam! I’m sorry to report that there is only 1 “Chernobyl” green left but I imagine there will be plenty more where that came from. I tested this product on my rowdy twins. The very first time, we did have a minor head injury because they weren’t used to the height. I think they learned their lesson. I just love this product! I too bought chocolate and you can hardly tell it’s there. It is very versatile and fits most chair styles. My chairs are a little funky and the KABOOST works just fine on them even on a seagrass rug.
Since we are officially promoted to booster seats, I’m donating my Peg Perego high chairs to two Smarty readers. They are white and just need a new cover which you can order through Peg. These retail for $175-ish new. Mine have been used and loved but work just fine. Email here and tell me your funniest child-story and I will give these to the winners. Thanks for reading! Jen P.

Traci, thanks for sharing the Kaboost with all of us! Think we will have to go and get them for the girls.
My comment isn’t about the kaboost (my daughter is still in a high chair), but wanted to say that I was happy to see that today the Observer honored Jen B. It was a wonderful article.
i just saw this in Parent’s magazine. where can i get on if i don’t have a bj’s membership?
I too loved reading the article in this mornings paper and seeing the family picture… I didn’t know Jen B but continue to think/pray for her family.
i’ve seen them at babiesrus.
I’m so excited to read about this!! We have been using the Keekaroo highchair (which we love!!!) for our 2 year old, but lately he keeps wanting to sit in a regular chair. Now I have ordered this and our 6 month old will be able to use the Keekaroo chair! Thanks, and just in time!!!
I saw Claire post about these on CMOMs, I think I need to invest in these. My boys do not want to sit in their booster anymore, they always sit in the regular chairs, which are too short for them. I found them online at BRU.
My girls are the same age as Jen’s boys, and we tried using the Cushee Boosters, but I quickly realized that they need to remain strapped in to a seat! Up and down during mealtime, sometimes falling on the hardwood floor, it just wasn’t worth the aggravation. I would love to use the Kaboost for aesthetic reasons, but they just need to stay strapped in for a while longer. I love the Fisher Price booster seats, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have bought 2 restaurant high chairs.
We’ve actually used the “high chairs” from IKEA after our kids graduated from the booster. In fact, they are still in use at our kitchen/breakfast table even though the boys (4 & 7) sit in regular seats everywhere else. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30090476
