I’m engrossed in Christmas shopping and am in a panic to get everything ready to ship out to my family. I have to admit – I probably do 90% of my shopping online. I just don’t have enough time in the day to get to where I need to go. My shopping sprees don’t even start until 10pm! So here are some of my ideas that I’m throwing around for my fam.
My favorite idea for my girls is the Just Like You Doll from American Girl, available at their website. You’ll get the doll, book + cd for $87. The doll is 18 inches tall and there are so many additional outfits to choose from on the website. Something to make it the coolest gift EVER is to include an invitation for your daughter to visit the American Girl Store in Atlanta and schedule a mommy & me luncheon plus a hair updo at the doll hair salon. How presh is that?! You could coordinate the trip with her best friend and mommy and make a super fun trip out of it. The store in Atlanta, click here for all the Atlanta details. It’s a crying shame we don’t have an American Girl Store in Charlotte!
Any little girl would also enjoy Hanna Andersson zebra or leopard clogs at The zebras are on sale for $26. I think I mentioned in a previous post that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the monogrammed clogs at the Pink Monogram and I feel they deserve a second viewing! I buy clogs for the girls every year for Christmas – special treat from mommy.
One gift that our parents give to our children is gift certificates for their after-school activities. We have gotten gift certificates from the YMCA for soccer (see photo of Ansley), ballet and gymnastics programs – you can use a Y gift certificate for any program they offer. We have also received gift cards to Jami Masters School of Ballet and Charlotte Gymnastics Academy. These are gifts that keep on giving and pretty much every business sells them.
Many of my friends are taking the plunge and are buying the Nintendo Wii, especially for boys. This is a super cool interactive video game system. I don’t know if you’ve seen the ad where a bunch of old guys are bowling with the Wii, dressed in their bowling duds – kinda funny visual and plays on the fact that these games seem so real. In fact, when it originally came out a few years ago, many people were throwing the Wii through their tvs because they were so caught up in the game! I think they’ve added a wrist band or something to try to prevent this. Anyway, I thought I would research it online and was surprised to see it bundled at over $500. Wow – these kids must have been amazingly nice (unlike my naughty little creatures – ha!) this year for a gift of that magnitude! Well my good bud, Courtenay W., found the best deal at Wal-Mart and bought the console for $250 and bought the Wii Play Pack for $50 and it comes with an extra controller and a few basic games to get them started. I particularly liked her family rule: no stationary games, all must be interactive and have movement. Personally, I would give this as a family gift so nobody fights over it and it doesn’t seem so expensive, especially if you divide by 4 children like in my household! Not into your child spending hours on end indoors? How about the Cosmic Catch for $22.13? This is the talking ball that knows your throws – It’s catch, but a whole new way. Another cool toy for boys this age is the RipStik Caster Board for $77.77. This is a cross between a skateboard and a snowboard. Make sure you purchase wrist/knee/elbow pads but good luck in getting boys to wear them!
You could get Panthers Crocs either at the Stadium or online at for $29.99. Or you could get your favorite collegiate crocs and these will cost you $34.99. Or, how about buy a football and run over to the Panthers practice field to get signatures. Courtenay W. says that Wednesdays are best, make sure you catch the players on the way out of practice, not in since they’re usually running late. She seems to think any time between 12:30pm and 1:30pm has worked for her and she always dressed her daughter in her Panthers cheerleader costume and most of the players couldn’t refuse!
Any child would enjoy:
– The new Mammoth Lined Crocs (not the cutest shoes I have seen but I’m sure all kids will love them) for $39.95. I’m buying these for my nieces in New York.
– High School Musical: Sing It Bundle with Microphone $59.99 (this one is rated for all ages)
– High School Musical 2 (Extended Edition) (2007) – rated G, $17.99
– High School Musical (Encore Edition) (2006) – rated PG so you decide if this is appropriate. $15.99
– A season pass to Carowinds, a good family gift and you can buy them online.
