For the first time since I can remember, I am not holding myself to a bunch of crazy New Year’s resolutions. I’m so O-V-E-R them! Instead, I am going to pat myself on the back for all of the good I’ve done over the last year. I maxed out my volunteerism hours. I’m super-duper proud of how CSP has grown and impacted the community. Even though I did not lose those 20 lbs that have been on my resolution list since I gave birth to twins (they’re lucky they are so darn cute!), I live a really healthy lifestyle. I’m a good mom, wife, friend, business partner – basically, I’m feeling pretty good about my last year! But, there is always room for improvement, right?!
So this year, I’m putting a very achievable goal on my list – writing thank-you notes for gifts or anything nice that someone has done for me. It seems that the electronic world that we live in has pretty much eliminated our need for hand-written notes. But think about how good it feels to receive that letter in your mailbox, instead of a pile of bills, especially post holiday! My favorite type of note is a photo card. I typically order from Snapfish, mainly out of habit, but all of the photo sites have them. I know, I know – we JUST finished mailing out Christmas and holiday cards! But why not send a thank-you to your family and close friends who cared enough to send a gift? You may have to write 20 cards at most, so it’s really not that much of a hassle. I love to include that precious photo on Christmas morning when they see that Santa really came – you know the expression (see mine featured here)! Your family will love it, especially those who live far away. Not to mention, most of the photo sites are running post-holiday specials, like free shipping or a discount on your cards.
So let’s all go old-school and get back to writing! Our elementary teachers will be so proud:-)
Happy New Year, Smarties!

Agree with you 100%. I always write hand-written notes, even to my own mom and dad. This year I had the kids help out as well. My six-year-old wrote his own notes (yes, he whined about it at first) and my four-year-old drew a picture and I wrote the words for her. It was also nice to think back on the gifts that they were given because at the time of opening, things were so crazy, I don't think they even realized who gave them what!
I have always written thank you notes to everyone who gives a gift to me or does something nice for me. It is courteous and just plain good manners 🙂 thanks for your post and happy new year!
