My sister recently got me hooked on Jo Malone cologne, she got the tip from Oprah. Well, we got in lots of trouble last week (on my mommy sabbatical) at the Jo Malone counter in FL and I just had to share the fun! London-based Jo Malone has trademarked a new trend in fragrances that all Smarties need to know: the Art of Fragrance Combining.
In true Jo Malone blending form, her intoxicating fragrances can be worn alone or layered on top of another, perfect for day to night transition. Jo Malone has a flavor for everyone with her fragrance arc: spicy, citrus, fruity, light green floral, floral and woody. She has a cheat sheet at the counter with her recommendations on what fragrances compliment each other so you can create your own personalized scent. And let me tell ya, she is EXTREMELY generous with her samples so you can really have fun with mixing and matching. Neiman Marcus, located at the SouthPark Mall, is the exclusive retailer in our area – the next closest place is Saks in Raleigh, so we should consider ourselves lucky!
Since I had already splurged in Florida, I decided to to do some Smarty research to check out Neiman’s and verify inventory, samples, and prices. Naturally, Neiman’s did not disappoint. In fact, I stumbled upon the “Best Kept Secret in Charlotte” right now, according to Elaine Shea at Neiman’s. They have a promotion going on right now called “Camp Gorgeous” with a fun tote and samples with the purchase of $85 or more (you can get this treat if you buy a 100 mL bottle of Jo Malone for $100 – there is also a 30 mL bottle for $55, but you won’t get the Camp Gorgeous tote). But that’s not the secret, it’s the FREE 1-hour facial (no purchase necessary) they are offering now through June 6th. This isn’t the ‘ole facial at the make-up counter in front of every shopper in the store. This is with an esthetician and I’m pretty sure it’s in a private room. I went right on ahead and booked my free facial, thank you very much! I also got Elaine’s number for all you Smarties to call for your free facial – 704-442-7900, ext. 2103. I’m sure spots are limited and this is by appointment only, so you might want to call, like right now!
My favorite JM fragrances are Nectarine Blossom & Honey, Orange Blossom and Grapefruit – can you tell I’m from Florida?! Actually, I smelled every single scent and I love them all. I plan to add some spicier fragrances in the fall so I can still have my citrus aromas but dress them up for the cooler weather. I’m a total addict!
Have fun and if you stop by Neiman’s, please tell them Charlotte Smarty Pants sent ya!

Hey Smarties-I just want to reiterate that you do not have to spend a penny to enjoy that FREE facial at Neiman Marcus. It’s the best deal in town – who couldn’t use a little free pampering?!!
I am signed up for a Facial! Can’t wait to see how it goes and report back!
smarty girls, just a quick update on the complimentary facial at Neiman’s. The available participating lines are the following: Amore Pacific, Armani, Bobbi Brown, Chritian Dior, Chantecaille, Cle de Peau, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Guerlain, Kiehl’s, Laura Mercier, La Prairie, Lancome, La Mer, Orlane, ReVive, Shu Uemura, Sisley, Trish McEvoy. Enjoy:)
I am completely addicted to Jo Malone and have tried them all (Jen is right about the samples being generous! A perfect way to test out the scents.) French Lime Blossom is my very favorite and the one that I keep coming back to, but there are at least three others that are a close second. The candles are also fantastic. A little expensive to burn everyday, but a great treat after a tough day or when you are having guests. Beware- highly addictive once you visit the counter!
Holy pampering, that was fabulous! Just had my free Laura Mercier facial and it was everything I needed and then some. The facial was the real deal, minus some of the yucky extractions at a spa facial. No hard push on the products since they sell themselves. The best part was when I was finished, I was escorted to the counter for a make-over by a Laura Mercier make-up artist. What spa does that for free?! I looked like a million bucks minus my rag hairdo! Not to mention, I am definitely sold on Laura Mercier (surprise, surprise!). I currently use Origins and just have not been pleased. I'm going to slowly use up the rest of my current products and gradually make the switch over to Laura Mercier. I was pleasantly surprised at the minimal price difference between the two lines. So hurry on over, Smarties – this pamperfest ends way too soon!
