This Smarty is in some serious mourning over her all-time favorite woman’s clothing shop, Harold’s. It’s true. Harold’s is closing it’s doors forever – all forty of them. Unfortunately, I’m sure this is not the last sale of this type we will tell you about. It’s just one of the many signs of the horrible times ahead.
I have been shopping Harold’s since I moved to Charlotte 12 years ago. They are known for their incredible sales (even during the current season), private sales (oh-so-Smarty when you invite 20 of your favorite friends and they supply the wine, cheese and shopping at a discount) and their fantastic customer service. My favorite salesperson is Carrie. She has helped me through thick (literally) and thin. That’s the thing about Harolds – it fits me skinny, fat and anywhere in between. I remember after I had the twins, I was embarrassed to go anywhere in my sweats, the only article of clothing that remotely fit me even four months after the twins were born (trust me, this is a twins thing!). Carrie took me under her wing and outfitted me with two wonderful get-ups that lasted through the season. She even gave me a special discount just because. Just because I had birthed four children. Just because I was crying in the dressing room because nothing looked pretty to me. Just because we were woman-to-woman and she could relate. So I am so sad to lose Harolds but more sad to lose Carrie, the best saleswoman in Charlotte.
But anyway, back to the “Smarty Alert”… Everything in Harold’s is at least 30-40% off. They are in the process of liquidation. They will keep their doors open for a while until they sell out. I bet there will be additional discounts. But you may want to stop on by because it will go fast. Make sure you keep us posted on the inventory through our comments section. I was there today – it was a madhouse but still chock full of great stuff.
Harold’s is located at Specialty Shops at the Park across from SouthPark Mall near Williams Sonoma, Nesting (one of our favorite Smarty Sponsors) and Bricktops restaurant.
P.S. Rachel, our super Smarty graphic designer also informed me of a Smarty Alert at Costco. This is the true bargain of the day. Baby Lulu outfits are at Costco for $18.99 in sizes 2T-4T at the Matthews Costco. I think it’s safe to assume that they have this stash at all the Costcos. But again, let’s keep everyone in the loop on inventory if you drop by. Rachie says this particular style is one of the cutest Baby Lulu designs she has seen in a while. I totally trust her!

Oh no! I LOVE Harolds! This is a sad day for Charlotte! I’m running over there tomorrow for sure. Thanks for the info!
I was there yesterday and there as a lot of inventory–good shoes too! However, I think I am going to hold out a bit for future markdowns…I did this at Talbot’s kids (which went out of business this summer and was my all time fav store for my twin boys) and ended up with amazing things at even more amazing prices. My boys have polo shirts for years to come!
Costco on Tyvola also has the baby lulu outfits. They are fantastic. I especially love that the pants are leggings which look cute no matter how long (or in my case, short) your daughters legs are. I’m going back for more!
Oh that is such a bummer! I love their clothes. Thanks for the information.
My mom is at the Costco Matthews now & they still have tons of the baby lulu dresses/leggings
went to Harolds this morning, tons of things still left!
I love Harold’s too! I also think Carrie is wonderful, and agree that the clothes fit me at all sizes and talior beautifully if needed. I certainly do not mean to be overly dramatic- but I am really sad about this! Harold’s was my go-to place, and the quality and service was reminiciant of what my grandmother would spin tales about,”In her day..” If a sale item had a spot- they’d dry-clean it on their dime. Thirsty? They had a water or teeney tiny soda. If there was a quality issue, they made arrangements to have it fixed or give you credit. Their coats, shoes, handbags, were staples of my wardrobe. I really am bummed. This was my couture, and my idea of high end. Sniff*
I went to both Costco’s on Thursday around lunch time. The Costco on Tyvola has way more sizes in the 12m-2T range, but had no more 4T in anything (that I could find). The Matthews Costco had less Baby Lulu overall but did have some 4T. Great patterns… hope that helps!
