Double strollers are a thing of the past.
Don’t believe me? Ask any parent with two or more young kids right now and they will tell you the same thing. Double strollers are expensive, bulky, heavy, and complicated to assemble and kids outgrow them very quickly. Stroller wagons are now replacing the traditional double stroller (with the exception of the double BOB because those will always be necessary for joggers) among most parents these days.
What exactly is a stroller wagon?
Imagine a kid’s transportation device with all the features of a stroller but with off-roading capabilities (for some models), easier assembly, longer lifespan, more durable, and similarly priced to a double stroller. They come in all kinds of options, sizes, with fancy add-ons, or simple features but all serve the same purpose – getting your kids and your gear safely from one point to another.
While there are dozens of options to pick from, my best friend has a Wonderfold Wagon and we own the Veer Cruiser, so I thought it would be fun to compare the two.
Veer Cruiser
The Veer Cruiser is one of the original stroller wagons, made for active families in all terrains and seasons. When you purchase your wagon it comes with two cup holders and a snack tray, plus you can buy additional attachments such as canopies, a cargo basket, bug shields, a five point toddler harness, infant car seat adapters, and a nap system. The rugged all terrain wheels are meant to get dirty and to clean just hose your Veer off and air dry. Veer makes a variety of products including a four-seat wagon, a new stroller system, and plenty of additional supplies to keep the outdoor adventures going.
As with any good product there are a few cons to the Veer – a major factor being the cost. (The latest models range in price from $699 to $799.) It also sits lower to the ground then a regular stroller, so at times I’ve taken people by surprise when rounding a corner. The steering takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it, I find it very easy to maneuver. I am not a big fan of having to purchase additional components once I invest in a good quality product, but this seems to be the norm with most strollers and wagons.
Wonderfold Stroller Wagon
Wonderfold Stroller Wagons come in two or four seater options depending on which model you select. It’s higher off the ground with a deep foot well that can accommodate all sizes of kids. Included in your purchase are two attachable seats, a pull handle, canopy poles and fabric, and a rear storage basket. There are many additional features you can upgrade to including a snack tray, infant car seat adapter, added cup holders, a rain shield, all weather floor mats, retractable sun shades, a travel cover, and more. The Wonderfold is essentially a rolling pack n’ play in my mind. It’s the perfect way to contain a lot of kids or provide a really safe place for a nap on the go. It has a multitude of features and it can be easy to get carried away with all the add-ons.
The Wonderfold is on the larger side which makes it heavier to lift and store in a trunk and harder to maneuver. I wouldn’t take it on a hike but it would work great for a beach day. The many attachments require additional purchases and it’s already an investment. (They range in price from $495 all the way up to $1599.) The Wonderfold also has specific cleaning requirements so be aware before you wash it.
Either wagon is an awesome addition to any family adventure. From the beach to the car mechanic, having a stroller wagon will revolutionize the way you transport your kids. Say goodbye to your double stroller and hello to wagon life!
