At the beginning of 2023 my sisters and I decided that in lieu of birthday presents this year, we would take a weekend trip together. Our destination of choice was the North Carolina mountains, specifically West Jefferson, NC. Have you been to West Jefferson, Smarties? We hadn’t and I highly advise adding it to your must-travel list.
A quick, easy drive Friday afternoon had us kicking off our girl’s weekend at a picturesque cabin tucked off a back road at the top of a secluded mountain. After unpacking, a few of us went exploring and discovered a private waterfall at the entrance to our neighborhood. We made a quick visit to the most scenic grocery store I’ve ever seen and then watched the day’s last rays of sun sink behind the mountains from the deck of our cabin while we ate dinner.
Saturday morning was slow in the best kind of way. We had a long coffee date on the expansive outdoor deck of our cabin and a late brunch. After packing a picnic, we piled into the car for a short 15 minute drive to Mount Jefferson. If you want to, you can drive (or hike) to the top of the mountain where there is a fabulous ridgeline hike that takes you from one mountain peak to another. The views were breathtaking, the trail was the just the right amount of difficulty, and it was a full loop that brought us right back to the parking lot. Mt. Jefferson has several outlooks that all have the right ingredients for a perfect post-hike lunch. We chose a spot about halfway down the mountain with a beautiful view and picnic tables.
While our legs were weary from our hike, they still had plenty of energy left for some shopping in downtown West Jefferson. Imagine the ideal North Carolina mountain town…One long road with shops, restaurants, and a donut shop-and you’ve got the perfect picture of downtown West Jefferson.
Our afternoon passed in a blur of adorable mountain gift shops, trendy shopping, and delicious smells. It was time to eat again, so we headed home for a snack, to clean up, and settle in for a relaxing evening. Dinner on Saturday night was hot off the grill, followed by a delicious S’mores charcuterie board (a new picture worthy trend that we are totally on board with).
Sunday morning we had to say goodbye to our cozy cabin, unbelievable views, and our sister weekend. West Jefferson was the perfect place to get away from the noise of regular life and spend uninterrupted quality time together.
If you’re in the market for a girls weekend with your besties, your sisters, or even just by yourself be sure to consider visiting West Jefferson, NC and staying where we did at View & Far Between. Our host was above and beyond- providing us with a detailed itinerary and insider advice for the area. With views for miles but all the modern conveniences you could need for vacation, our cabin was the perfect location for our trip. We only scratched the surface of the amenities offered at our rental and in the area. My favorite part of the whole weekend was the sound of my sister’s laughter while appreciating the beautiful views from the deck.
