Hey Smarties! It’s me, Christy.
It’s been a minute since my last yoga post. Life has certainly gotten in the way of my “workout schedule.” I know, I know, so many excuses. I haven’t stopped practicing yoga entirely. Just not as frequently. . . And boy can I tell!
I started teaching indoor cycling again at a local studio. So, once again, I’m dealing with tight hip flexors, tight hamstrings, tight quads, tight hip rotator muscles and a tight lower back. If ever there has been a time I needed to increase my yoga practice, it is NOW! When I started on my yoga journey in January, my friend, Lauren, told me that yoga would be the yin to my yang whenever I started teaching again. . . And she’s absolutely right. While cycling, hips stay in a closed position as your legs go up and down. Stretching those muscles is incredibly important.
While I do see yoga as a form of exercise, I see it, moreso, as a necessary and sustainable source of activity that both strengthens and stretches me while also challenging me. When I go consistently, I see great improvement and my body just feels better (aches less)! My favorite class still remains Restore and my next favorite is Slow Flow.
After I get back from vacation next week, I’m committing to two classes a week because it’s what I need to fell better (and by better I mean less achy.) Maybe one day you’ll join me. Feel free to message me if you think you need some yoga practice in your exercise repertoire!
