Smarties, do your children know the story “Dragons Love Tacos?” It’s the witty and oh-so-creative No. 1 New York Times bestselling book written by Adam Ruben and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri that explains what happens when you introduce spicy salsa to some zany taco-loving dragons.
My three sons, ages 5, 4 and 4 love the story, and I can’t wait to take them to see it come to life on stage this weekend at the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. Not only will they get to see the 11 o’clock show on Saturday, they’ll get a chance to see Ed Bounds’ Dragon Live in the ImaginOn lobby then grab a bite of lunch afterward from the International Truck of Tacos parked outside that day from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Just the anticipation of going has my boys excited, so much so that my son Wes spent this morning drawing his own “Dragon Loves Taco” book.
“Dragons Love Tacos” will run at the McColl Family Theatre at ImaginOn starting tonight, February 11, at 7:30 p.m. and going through Sunday March 6. It is appropriate for children ages 4 and up. For tickets and information, click here.
Here is the official lowdown from the Children’s Theatre:
We’re excited to announce that “Dragons Love Tacos” is finally making its way onto our stage after a two-year pause due to the pandemic. We can’t wait to have families come see this hilarious show about dancing dragons that love tacos – just not spicy tacos. Chaos ensues when the dragons take a bite of spicy tacos literally bringing down for everyone to see. To celebrate opening weekend, we’ll have Dragons Live! and International Truck of Tacos on site. Families will get to ride and interact with dragons while also enjoying delicious food. This will be a perfect event for all families this weekend.
The play adapted from the #1 New York Times bestselling children’s book by Adam Rubin makes its debut at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte after a two-year pause. Originally slated for the 2019-20 season, “Dragons Love Tacos” shut down right before its premiere due to the start of the pandemic. The set and costumes remained stored at the theatre waiting for its big moment to shine.
This weekend, Ernie Nolan’s adaptation of “Dragons Love Tacos” premieres on Friday February 11 at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. The hilarious play filled with music, dancing dragons, and tacos bring Daniel Salmieri’s illustration to life on the stage.
To celebrate the opening weekend, Ed Bounds’ Dragons Live will be at outside at ImaginOn, weather permitting, on Saturday, February 12th from 12-3 PM. He’ll bring his dragons for children to interact with, ride on, and even watch a dragon hatch from an egg. Blanca Gonzalez’s International Truck of Tacos will be selling delicious food that day from 11 AM to 3 PM. Just remember, do not feed the dragons any spicy tacos – Children’s Theatre of Charlotte would like to keep ImaginOn in one piece.
Tickets for “Dragons Love Tacos” are available until March 6. For more information regarding the show or Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s 2021-22 season, please visit ctcharlotte.org.
