My sister discovered Coolibar sun protective clothing a few years ago when she built a pool in her backyard. I’m so glad she discovered it! I had a 1-year-old and was pregnant with twins at the time, and I was looking for any and all ideas about how to keep them safe in the sun and in a way that was also low maintenance for me!
Now I swear by Coolibar swimwear for my three young boys and me. It’s not just that I want them safe from sunburns and love that they can get hours of fun in the water without having to constantly reapply sunblock. I am redheaded (mostly, these days!) with fair skin. I had to have a melanoma removed from my arm in 2012. I’ve had to be super vigilant about keeping my skin safe, and with three boys ages 5, 3 and 3, staying healthy takes on an entirely new importance. I wish Coolibar had been around in the 80s when I was hanging out at the pool all day throughout the summer! (Take note, moms of teenagers!)
The bonus is that not only is the swimwear safe, it’s cute! And it’s high-quality material that stands up both to the sun and to little boys playing in the sand and waves for hours!
We’ve made it a family tradition every spring now that the Easter Bunny brings new Coolibar bathing suits. That way everybody has something new for our family beach trip and for all the time we spend each summer at Aunt Louise’s pool. The twins have outgrown the zip-up rashguard suits – which are terrific, by the way – but we put them into some “big boy” long-sleeved tops with matching trunks and they were a huge hit on our recent trip to Isle of Palms, S.C.
I just happened to pick out similar-looking suits for my 5-year-old Wade and Johnny, one of the twins, and I realized watching them play in the water at the beach what an advantage it is having them wearing the same thing. It simplifies keeping an eye on them! With three boys going in three directions sometimes, that’s not nothing!
As for me, in the past I’ve gotten Coolibar pull-overs to wear over my regular bathing suits. I wanted a long-sleeved bathing suit, which I knew would be great for convenience, but I wasn’t really clear on how supportive the tops were! This year I decided to try a long-sleeved bathing suit after e-mailing Coolibar customer service and they told me their long-sleeved suits came with built-in bras. Between that, the high-neck design and the clingy material, the support has been good. Definitely better than some of the suits I’ve been wearing for a few too many summers now!
This year I tried one of the sundresses too. I tossed it in the suitcase for our beach trip and ended up wearing it out for dinner. It’s that cute! And hey dual purpose means you save on packing space. Win-win.
Check out the latest and get your family – and you – stocked up for summer!
