Big Air Trampoline Park is making it SO easy for parents to get some exercise while their kids are close by having a blast. It’s hard to find a bigger win-win situation than that! Big Air offers fitness classes for adults with on-site childcare – which in this scenario means a chance for kids to do one of their favorite things: jump!
In our family, my three young sons refer to Big Air as “the jumpy place.” They try to recreate it at home by putting on their orange Big Air socks, which come with added traction built into the soles, and they jump around on sofa cushions they arrange on the floor. When they actually get to go to the real jumpy place? Giddiness.
When I handed off my twin 3-year-olds recently to a Big Air staffer for a chance to try out one of the fitness classes, they barely said goodbye. Off they went off to jump with a few other assembled kids and staffer without so much as a look back. Normally a new childcare scenario might be a little tenuous. I got a full hour to exercise, without them giving a second thought as to where I was or what I was doing!
The most amazing thing about it is, not only was it exercise, it was fun! Once I got the hang of it, even the instructor commented that I smiled pretty much the whole time. I couldn’t help it! Here was this readymade excuse to jump on a trampoline as a full-grown adult and call it exercise!
The class was an hour and hardly felt like it. The instructor rotated in song-length segments between jumping on the trampoline and doing strength exercises, which you did either standing on a still trampoline or up on its edges. It was just the right blend of cardio and low impact work.
Each participant has his or her own trampoline, within a grid of smaller trampolines, so social distancing comes naturally. Masks are no longer required of guests at Big Air, including during fitness classes, though the staff will continue to wear them.
Big Air offers fitness classes three mornings per week. The classes start 30 minutes before Toddler Time begins (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays feature trampoline classes and Thursdays feature an aerobics-style class held in the back party room area. On Saturdays, both classes are offered.
The first class is free. Childcare is an additional $5 for each child. Drop-in classes are $15, and class passes are available – 10 classes for $100 or five classes for $60. For more information about pricing, click here.
Here’s the schedule. (For the most updated information about the schedule, check their social media channels.)
Tuesday 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – Big Air Fit on the trampolines
Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – High Fitness aerobics style class
Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Both Big Air Fit and High Fitness are offered.
As we are approach the end of the school year, opportunities like these get even more important, considering we’re often looking for creative ways to exercise while our children are out of school!
