October is Women’s Small Business Month and we’re spotlighting the three women leaders of VIBE5 Yoga + Fitness: Amy Radke, Edith McDonnell and Ansley Melnik.
The idea for VIBE5 began to take shape in the fall of 2016 and the South Park studio doors opened in July of 2017.
Since then Amy, Edith and Ansley have been singularly focused on the VIBE5 studio motto: sweat heals. The 5 in VIBE5 (pronounced vibes) comes from the five pillars upon which the studio was founded: yoga, strength training, cardio, youth and community.
This is a well-balanced team, with business talents that pull from three different backgrounds. Amy brings her skills from the corporate and financial world to the studio. Beyond her desire to build a studio that is valuable and sustainable to serve the Charlotte community, her interest was also in making fitness & yoga accessible and more mainstream, so that it was a welcoming place to get healthy, even if you didn’t have an established exercise program or practice.
Since 2011, Ansley has been in the fitness world as an instructor, program coordinator as well as in fitness consulting and marketing. With these different perspectives, she has always believed the right team is critical. “As women leaders we are naturally collaborative and the partnership with Edith and Amy creates a really great synergy”.
Edith has been teaching yoga for 13 years, and before that was a personal trainer. Her passion is seeing a student walk out of class feeling stronger and proud of themselves. She strives to bring the yoga “mindset” to all classes in the studio, even Strong VIBE5 (strength training format) and Bootcamp. “I am most proud of the community of support that we see and feel every day. We provide the safest, most effective way for you to stay moving well in your body and a path to a yoga practice that heals”.
The three set out to create a studio space that other women (and men!) could come and experience their own confidence, strength and self-worth and then go out into the community and empower other women to celebrate their own potential, too. They believe a strong body and strong mind can start a ripple effect, with far reaching effects.
“As women business owners, but also as moms, we know that sometimes women are subjected to messaging that discourages taking time for yourself, going after what you want and relying on your own strength, intelligence and power. VIBE5 is about celebrating health and wellness without guilt or fear. You are worthy of the time you spend on your mat”.
And as moms of teens, beginning this month, they are introducing a new class specifically designed for teens to discover their own strength, balance, flexibility and focus through the practice of yoga.
