Everyday we are learning about how our community is constantly coming together and doing amazing things to get us through the strange times we are living in. Our Smarty friends at Charlotte Ballet are hosting an online premiere of Dispersal tomorrow (Friday) that will lift all of our spirits – a PERFECT Friday night shelter in place family activity. Read on!
Hailed as featuring pas de deux that are “technically excellent” yet “daring and vulnerable,” Dispersal will be the first full performance streamed by Charlotte Ballet, free-of-charge for everyone.
From Charlotte Ballet:
Now more than ever we are strengthened and inspired by our mission of providing artistically excellent programming and so we invite you to join us Friday evening as Charlotte Ballet brings the community together in a celebration of dance!
About the work: Dispersal was created by choreographer Christopher Stuart for our 2020 winter series, Innovative Works: Beyond the Mint. For this series, Stuart and two other choreographers were tasked with creating new works inspired by the Mint Museum exhibit, Immersed in Light: Studio Drift at the Mint. The gorgeous score “Il Nodo” was composed for this work by sought-after Nashville musician Cristina Spinei.
When asked about Dispersal, Stuart cites being “particularly struck by Studio Drift’s artwork involving dandelion seeds” (pictured below). In this work, he uses dandelions as a metaphor for humans — “we adapt to our surroundings; we show resilience.” How perfectly suited to this time!
