{Photo by Peter Zay} Our Smarty favorite aerial arts & dance company, Caroline Calouche & Co, is offering season subscriptions for the first time ever! They host three shows and will be presented at the Booth Playhouse at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
The season kicks off with an audience favorite – Clara’s Trip: A Cirque & Dance Nutcracker Story. Performances are on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m & 6pm.
Next up is the sixth annual production of Rouge, a cabaret act with Saturday Night Live-style comedy mixed in with gravity-defying aerial acts. The performance is lively, participatory and PG-13. It’s Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at 5 and 9 p.m.
Closing out the season is Lingua, a multidisciplinary work Calouche describes as “cerebral and academic.” Through dance, circus arts, theater and music, the production examines one of the most fundamental aspects of being human – language. Performances are on Friday, April 12 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 13 at 2 and 8 p.m. The intimate seating arrangement allows for interaction between audience and performers, who will – through movement – examine German, Hebrew, Mandarin, Arabic, Kuuk Thaayorre (an Aboriginal language), nonverbal and new languages.
Ticket Packages:
Clara’s Trip, Rouge and Lingua comprise the 2018-19 season. A season subscription saves 10 percent off the single ticket price – and guarantees priority seating. Tickets are available in three zones within the Booth Playhouse. Pricing for a season subscription, which includes all three shows, is based on the seating selected:
Premium: $110
Zone 2: $100
Zone 3: $90
Season tickets are on sale now via carolinecalouche.org, at the Carolina Tix box office and at 704.372.1000. Single tickets, beginning at $25, go on sale September 20th.
“All three shows we’re offering are memorable in different ways,” said Founder Caroline Calouche. “Lingua, our season finale, is going to be extraordinary – in part because some members of the audience will be seated on stage with us.”
“The show explores how language can affect your perception of the world,” she continued. “Language is the first organizational pattern we learn as infants. It establishes how we see the world.”
Note: ‘Perspective’ is postponed due to Hurricane Florence. Stay tuned for rescheduled dates/times.
