I am thrilled to introduce Rebekah Somers. I had the opportunity to meet her and her lovely family through a small group from our church. She is by far one of the most compassionate and thoughtful women I’ve had the chance to know. She is a hard-working Smarty Mom who has a pure gratitude for time spent with her family. Let’s get to know Rebekah!
Smarty Mom: Rebekah Somers
Married to: Timothy Somers
Kids: Genesis 1, Brody 10
Years in Charlotte: 1.5
Originally from: Oklahoma
Occupation: Online Director for Elevation Church
What are some of the challenges and benefits of having two boys a few years apart?
Challenges: not making my older son, Brody, feel like my love for him is less just because it is less affectionate. Having Genesis (1-year-old), obviously I kiss his chubby cheeks and snuggle with him like crazy, which can come across to Brody like I love him less. (Brody doesn’t like me to tackle him with kisses anymore).
Advantages: Brody is soooo much help. I advise everyone to have a 9-year gap. Lol just kidding (kinda). But Brody loves his brother. He will go get him if he hears him cry in the mornings, change him, and then they watch cartoons together. I mean that’s incredible.
Your new position requires you to communicate with people all over the world. What are some pointers for great online communication?
I think with online communication your personality needs to be felt throughout what you’re trying to communicate. People want to connect with someone that feels genuine and real, and that is conveyed through your personality.
You are slowly, but surely, convincing your family members to move to Charlotte. What do you love about this city?
I love my church.
I love how safe the city is.
I love how modern the city is.
I love how kind people are here.
What advice do you have for a family new to Charlotte?
Go explore, get out, go to parks, go to the museums, see all that Charlotte has to offer.
What’s your favorite family outing in/around the Queen City?
I love getting Duck Donuts (or Tupelo Honey) and then going to Freedom Park!
What’s your ideal date night?
Going to a nice dinner, movie, and then getting Krispy Kreme’s on the way home.
Favorite app
Marco Polo, it helps me to connect my family in Oklahoma with what’s going on in my life here in Charlotte!
What is something that not many people know about you?
I am fluent in Sign Language (and you would think my kids would be great at it, but you know…life happens and they know NO sign language. But I still plan to teach them!)
Finish this statement. I could not live without…
Bread.
But honestly, without my church. I love my church!
