Pink Social was officially launched by in November 2014 by two great friends and Charlotte natives Sarah Baucom and Carrie Barker – fashion retail and graphic design experts, respectively. Sarah & Carrie met at Charlotte Catholic High School, but did not connect until 10 years later. Their bond was instant and totally unique. Immediately, they started working together on their own separate businesses and realized how well they work as a team. Pink Social was a combination of Carrie’s company, Pink Toast Ink and Sarah’s company, Social Dress Shop. Also, they loved that it could represent “PS I love You.”
Pink Social was an ideal before it was a product as the duo believe wholeheartedly in supporting women in their creative entrepreneurial endeavors. Although the company was founded over four years ago, they did not choose a product to produce until November 2014 when they received a request to make some graphic tee shirts. It was a perfect catalyst to continue to promote their ideology of supporting women and girl power.
After a record breaking year, the two began a Facebook group called the “Pink Social Girl Tribe“, open to all who want to connect with others. The Girl Tribe is about owning where you are in your life, and is not exclusive to business owners. They encourage SAHMs, women with corporate jobs, college women, etc who wants to reach out and truly make a difference in the women’s lives that surround them. They say the words “end girl on girl war” a lot, and that is because that is exactly what we are trying to do, one real connection at a time.

Hands High Designs – MEREDITH LEACH

Smarties, meet Hands High Designs, the jewelry line created by local Charlotte Smarty mama Ashley Hall. The minute I saw these necklaces I was OBSESSED – they are boho-chic, natural, neutral, and ultra fashionable but so incredibly wearable – even if it’s just to run carpool on a Tuesday morning. 🙂 You know how so many statement necklaces are uncomfortable to wear? Not these. Slip one on and see – they lay perfectly around the neck and are so light-weight, but will make even the most casual outfit a show-stopper.
Ashley is a mom of three who has always had a love for fashion – especially the boho style. She was a teacher pre-kids, then a stay-at-home mom where, as most of us know, the days of dining out and shopping with friends got replaced with yoga pants and playdates :-). She found the boho-chic style to be perfect for a mom – cool, yet understated and comfortable. So, with her love for all thing boho coupled with a recent re-decorating of her house where she fell in love with different types of fabric, paintings, pillows, and chairs, Hands High Designs was created (literally a middle-of-the-night epiphany she says!)
Named after her obsession with horses, “hands high” refers to the measurement of a horse (instead of “feet tall” like people, horses are measured in “hands high”). She uses natural materials like wood, antlers, recycled glass – and gorgeous fabrics like velvet, linen and tribal prints – to make each piece unique.
Each piece is slightly different and give options for everyone, from different width fabrics {ranging from 1″-2.5″}, to different fabrics {from a solid cream linen to a plaid velvet}, to different beading and pendants. This makes trunk shows super fun b/c everyone feels like they’re choosing their own necklace vs the same one that their friend picked out.
She’s also started a children’s collection called “little bit” (another horse-reference). These are smaller length bands with more whimsical beading from pompoms to Stars and animals (and a limited holiday collection!). And don’t let the “little bit” name fool you, these necklaces are the PERFECT tween/teen gift!

Rachel Wade is a local artist who is super talented. She is a family friend of mine and painted my twins recently and I fell in love. Both with Rachel and her art. Her personality is mesmerizing and her talent is unmistakable.
When I first had coffee with Rachel, I was drawn to this portrait of a dog…
I LOVE everything about this painting. I WILL be commissioning her to paint my adorable cavapoo, Henry and I want it staged exactly like this! Our lucky Smarty will receive: An original 10” x 10” oil painting on canvas of one bust of a pet. Valued at $200.00.
Fine print: The portrait will be created using artist grade oil paint on gallery wrapped canvas and completed with a protective varnish and hanging wire.
