As a young parent, I am always looking for a bargain. We didn’t come into parenting with 15 years of two incomes under our belt… so we try to be extra smart about our choices. I’ve basically made it a hobby to figure out what is worth the splurge, and what isn’t when it comes to the needs of my child. $2,000 crib? Definitely not worth the splurge. Fancy stroller? Absolutely, I’d buy it over again in a heartbeat. Now, as I launch into the preschool years, I am discovering that there are even more choices available. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that private swim lessons are worth every.last.penny. Over the last year my almost 3-year-old has FLOURISHED at Charlotte Swim Academy. I’ve grown to love this place, the warm swim room, other swim parents and most importantly the staff. These private swim lessons have been a must in our house.
Let me tell you why.
1. Faster Results: Charlotte Swim Academy only offers private lessons, as they believe it is the best environment for children to learn. I couldn’t agree more. I have watched Annie’s teachers tailor their lessons directly to her. Using things that incentivize her and helping her really love the water. I have enjoyed watching them push her on days when things are clicking and helping her love the water on days when it was intimidating.
2. I Don’t Have to Wear a Swimsuit: Most group lessons require the parent to swim along with the child. At Charlotte Swim Academy, your child enters the pool while you watch from a viewing room. It’s already a feat for me to get my daughter to swimming lessons (on time) with a swim diaper, towel, swimsuit and snacks, let alone the whole get-up for me too. I don’t have to shave my legs, fit into a swimsuit or get my hair wet. Call it a first world problem… but man is it nice to stay dry!
3. Children Respond Better to Teachers: We all know the drill. Most children behave better for strangers than they do for their parents. I am amazed that my 2-year-old and I already have a constant power struggle. I thought I had yeaaars for that to pop up. I can’t imagine trying to get her to put her face in the water or teaching her to do a stroke. Most days I am barely holding on in the patience department, so having someone else take over for 30 minutes is glorious.
4. Swimming is Crucial: A lot of the activities I enroll Annie in aren’t exactly necessary. But swimming is a life skill that is crucial. This semester I’ve opted to take her out of other lessons and focus primarily on swimming as we gear up for the summer. For me, if I am going to spend any money on lessons, it is going to be on the skill that is lifesaving. Swimming is a top priority in my book.
I can’t say enough positive things about Charlotte Swim Academy. I was surprised that comparatively the cost of private swimming lessons vs group swimming lessons really isn’t that different. You might be surprised to know that it’s really not that much more expensive. As a self-proclaimed expert in where to splurge – private swimming lessons at Charlotte Swim Academy is a must.
