I grew up doing theater and truly believe that a passion for the arts is one of the best gifts we can give our children! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to go to 101 Dalmatians at The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte this past weekend (which is located inside ImaginOn). I hadn’t heard much about the theater and am now vowing to go back for every show. I have never been to a true “children’s theater” and as such had pretty low expectations.
Annie and I met up with a friend for pizza and a cupcake at the 7th Street Market before zipping over for the show (a very fun outing). The theater greeted us with paw print stamps on our hands and the girls were in hog-heaven! We had general seating, which made it really nice for the kids. Since our girls are only two we found a seat on the very back row in case we needed to make a quick exit (the theater welcomes all children but recommend the shows for ages 5+). I loved looking around and seeing all of the squirming kids in their seats. The anticipation was high and I was excited to see their faces. It was the “world-premiere” of this version of 101 Dalmatians so the writers and composers were in the audience. This made it especially exciting!
The show started and I couldn’t help but get butterflies as I watched the grin on Annie’s face! She LOVED every second of it. The show was only 75 minutes long – perfect for kids! It had humor made for children. The show was written from the dog’s perspective and the kids thought it was hilarious. All of the “humans” had masks on and were made to look even taller so that the “dogs” looked small. It was darling. Our favorite scene was when the puppies were born. Their creativity in plopping the puppies down and having an actor pop up was hysterical. Even my two-year-old laughed out loud.
I was blown away by the quality of acting, singing and décor. These were professional actors. This was not what I was expecting… it was SO much more! I had a ball right along with my child! I was a bit worried that Cruella would scare the children but she did an excellent job! She was the perfect amount of feisty, but not scary. She drove a zippy red car on to stage and had an incredible mask that reminded me of the masks in the Lion King on Broadway. There wasn’t a single flaw or mess up the whole show. Just as the children seemed to be getting antsy, they threw in a fun song at the end and viola, the show was over at the perfect time!
I can’t rave about our experience enough! It was a real hit for our family and we can’t wait to go back for the next show!

My boys would love to see this, I mean wouldn’t want to 101 Dalmatians!
My kids would love this show (and so would I)! What a great introduction to theater for kids.
My two boys really enjoy theater but we haven’t been able to attend too many productions. We own a dalmation so we love them and the boys were fascinated with the movie. A live performance would be magical for them – and me! 🙂
Such a classic story has to be experienced by every generation. This is an opportunity for my son to experience the joy I felt when I was a child. The CTC continues to provide quality productions. Great job!
I would love to take my son! He loves this movie and I want to start teaching him an appreciation for the arts. I think this would be the perfect show to get him interested!
Would love to win these tickets! The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte does an amazing job with everything they do!
This is one of my kids’ favorite movies and can I say that my kids love anything to do with dogs!!! They’re not getting a puppy until next year so this may tide them over!
We love the Children’s Theatre and would love to see this show.
My daughter Would love this!!

My son goes crazy for “fire dogs” as he calls Dalmatians, looks like a cute show!
101 Dalmations is our family’s fav!
I have two daughters who love the theater and we would love to go to this as a family!
I would love to take my kids to see this production! Hope we win;)
My grandson is turning 6 today. We took him to see “Tarzan” at the Children’s Theatre last year and he was mesmerized! I really want him to be exposed to live performances. He is already so caught up in video games. I’m not so keen on that. He is familiar with 101 Dalmatians, and seeing it live would take it to a whole new level.
The Children’s Theatre is awesome, and thanks for the lunch idea!
My 4 year old constantly pretends to be a puppy so I just know he would love to go to this (as would the rest of the family!)
We’ve read the book a number of times and they’d love seeing the play. I am a huge proponent of letting kids experience live theater.
My kids have loved shows at the Childrens Theater! They always do a great job! I know my kids wool love this beloved story!
I would love to take my younger son to this. He suffers from second child syndrome and hasn’t gotten to experience as many cool (and costly) things as his big bro. 😉
My children would absolutely love this! We are a dog-loving family and this would make our day!
My children absolutely love the story!!!! And they love dogs:)
My girls love the original Disney movie, especially the spooky Kruella Deville, so I know they would absolutely adore this theater production. We love CTC for classes, camps and shows throughout the year.
I would love to take my daughters to this show!! They love puppies!
My grandchildren love the Children’s theater productions!! I would love to take them to the play.
Would be a great mother son date! ❤️
