The competition team members at Miller Street Dance Academy have got more than amazing dance skills – they’ve got compassion and kindness for children a LONG way from Charlotte. Since 2008, Miller Street has helped support the African Christian Fellowship International (ACFI), which supplies food and other necessities to an orphanage in Liberia, Africa. They call it “Penny Wars,” but those pennies add up to BIG contributions to those in need.
The competition team members at Miller Street Dance Academy announced last week that their annual fundraising effort has officially begun.
Penny Wars is a competition to raise money and awareness for the orphanage. Every year the dancers sell handmade crafts, t-shirts, and organize bake sales and raffles. Last year they raised $22,338.87 – AMAZING. Every dollar feeds eleven children one meal, therefore the dancers contributions went to purchase rice for over 245,000 meals for the orphans.
MSDA is known for its family-friendly approach to dance – the students learn not only performance and dance skills, but also about giving back in our community and in communities far away.
