OK, so our kids have Rainbow Looms to keep their wrists colorful, but have you noticed some ladies walking around Charlotte wearing some brightly colored beaded bracelets? I’ve been seeing them popping up on wrists all over the QC – they’re the perfect amount of arm candy for everyday wear or evening. They’re called Lily and Laura® bracelets. These glass beaded gems are hand-made by women in Nepal. No two bracelets are alike – kinda like our Smarty mamas. Love, love, love.
And I love the story behind them just as much as I love the millions of color variations. Here’s what their web site says about their history:
Laura has always been passionate about art, travel, and the world’s cultures. She has enjoyed visiting over 30 countries. After earning a degree in art history she settled in Nepal for seven years beginning in 1996. She stayed in Nepal because she loved the people and beauty of this wonderful country. It was then that she grew to enjoy clothing and accessory design. She discovered the Nepali womens’ crocheted bracelets and decided to devote her energy to helping her women friends make them something truly special. In Laura’s words ‘Each bracelet is a little piece of artwork.’ Our women artists are passionate about making the Lily and Laura® bracelets they crochet very special.
Each bracelet is made by hand and proceeds from the bracelets help to improve the lives of the women who make them.
The bracelets easily roll over your hand, and stacking them into your own design is the best part. They’re really lightweight, which means they can be worn all the time – I even wear mine to work out sometimes (if I’m feeling super fancy that day, that is). I also caught Smarty Camp Mom Jen P. sporting them while wearing her “Camp Mom” t-shirt at Camp Harrison earlier in the week. They’re THAT versatile.
Warning: they’re addictive. Picking just a couple is hard to do, so be prepared to buy enough to stack! They’d also make GREAT presents for the tween or teen in your life. Stocking stuffer possibility for SURE.
They retail for $12 each or 3 for $30. Like Lily and Laura bracelets on facebook and stay updated on the latest colors.
Where can I find these little works of art around town?
