Swim. Bike. Run. I bet your school-aged kids can do all three, right? If your child can swim one length of the pool, ride a bike and run/walk, he or she is probably able to do a kids’ triathlon. Kids’ triathlons are popping up all OVER Charlotte. My kids have done several and have loved every single one. They are fun, challenging, and most of all REWARDING. The kids feel like they’ve really accomplished something when it’s all said and done (and um, they HAVE. Some adults can’t even do what the kids have done!), and it’s such great exposure to a lifetime of physical activity and competition. I was 30 when I finished my first triathlon – I can’t imagine how much more confident I would’ve felt if I would’ve had one under my belt at age 5!
Check out one of these local kids’ triathlons coming up. Distances vary by age and event so make sure to check the event’s web site or email its coordinator for details. Most benefit a charity, so not only are your kids doing something great for themselves, they are also making a huge difference in our community. If you know of one not on this list, please add it to the comments below AND to our Smarty calendar! Get those kids ready to swim, bike, and run!!!
