Smarties, the Harlem Globetrotters – that unbelievable basketball team that combines mad-ball skills, athleticism, comedy, and theater – is coming to Charlotte THIS month – March 23 at Time Warner Cable Arena at 1 pm. If your family has never seen a game, this is your chance – you don’t want to miss it. They are FUN.
The Globetrotters are doing something different this year, too – it’s the 2013 “You Write the Rules” World Tour. They promise it will take kid participation to a whole new level. Fans will decide the rules for the game that could affect the final outcome. You can vote for your favorite, craziest rule at www.harlemglobetrotters.com, then see the winning rules implemented live into Globetrotter basketball. My kids would totally dig this. After the game, Globetrotter stars remain on court for autographs and photographs with fans.
And, they’re making it super easy for families this time around. You can now purchase Family Pack tickets, which include a ticket, a hot dog, drink and chips. Um, that means food and entertainment are DONE for the day! It doesn’t get much better than that.
There’s also a “Magic Pass” entry that lets your family actually spend time on the court with the Globetrotters – shooting, trying out ball tricks, autographs and photos! SO fun.
The Globetrotters roster features stars such as Special K Daley and Flight Time Lang. Other favorites will be there, including, 7-ft 8-in Tiny Sturgess (the world’s tallest pro basketball player), 5-ft 2-in Too Tall Hall (the shortest Globetrotter ever), and female star T-Time Brawner.

Every minute of this week I feel like I am their star point guard with as many balls in the air as I have going on, would love to go see them in action.
I can not drop teh ball i need to kepp theballs in the air and going every day !
I feel like I’m juggling all the time but the worst is in the early morning before the kids get off to school. That’s when my teammates (husband and kids) are least likely to catch any balls I may drop!
I feel like a Harlem globe trotter with all of the slick shots make when asked questions by my 8 year old twins. You know those questions that you cannot plan for. Here’s an example of a trick shot with a turnover. Getting off the bus my son says ” mummy. What does bitch mean “. ” oh son – that’s another word for a female dog … Oh and look there is one of our neighbors with their new puppy !
Another technique – the goal deflection. ” mummy …. Andrew says he’s a test tube baby …. What does that mean ? ” my response was ” well darling …. I’m not sure what he means by that. But we cd go for a play date soon and you can ask his mummy. ”
That’s what you need to do when you are a patent – just like an athlete – have quick feet, be a team player, think quickly, punt when appropriate , juggle multiple balls and most of all love to play the game !!!!
between the hours of 5 and 8 every weekday: wrap up work day, rush out the door to pick up 2 kids at 2 different places, while often still taking calls or checking the blackberry (at red lights ONLY) .. make a (decent) dinner, get said kids to various evening activities, do homework, bath/showers, read books .. and whew! time to sit down ….
It takes a pretty impressive set of skills to parent in general, but the time of my day when I’m juggling and showing off my mommy moves is definitely after I pick my daughter up from school. We carpool, then it’s off to an OT, then whatever extracurricular activities are on the calendar for the day. When we get home, it’s dun dun dun…{{{homework time}}}. After that, I slam dunk it with another homecooked meal, then shower and bedtime. All of that with no timeouts!!! After my daughter gets to sleep, I feel like I should be signing autographs. 🙂
The minute my youngest wakes up for the day, it is on. Seeing these guys in action would be unbelievable. Thank you for this opportunity!
During homework time!! three boys 5th, 3rd, 1st and a preschool girl I am relearning my mutiplying fractions, while finding the common denominator, cooking dinner, sorting words into short a long a and writing our ABC’s. We got it all!! Would love to see them Globtrotters in action!!!
I feel pike one from dusk till dawn. I have a 16mo old and a 7 week old. A constant dribbling act all day long between naps, schedules, feeldings, play time, mommy time (haha yea right), the finally bed time!
At 2:00 every week day. The kids are on their way home from school and the craziness begins with homework, practices, dinner, etc. It’s like a whole other day on top of the working day just completed.
Definitely juggling a lot of balls at night after I pick the kids up at daycare. Actually, with 3 kids and working outside the home, I probably feel like that all the time.
Definitely between 4:30 and 6 during the homework and dinner rush
trying to get out the door in the mornings!!
Typical afternoon between 4:40 p.m. and 6 pm in my house — where I juggle three kids, a dog, a 40-hour-a-week work-from-home job that’s supposed to be part-time: “Mom, I don’t understand this math homework.” “Mom, come here now!” “Mom, I HAVE TO GO POOPY.” “Woof!” (That’s the dog who wants to come in and needs her muddy paws wiped) “Mom, I still don’t get this problem.” “Mom, can I play on your computer?” “Mom, can you sign this?” “RING”- That’s an editor calling with a last-minute, on-deadline question that absolutely cannot wait. Despite my no screen-time on weekdays rule, I turn on the TV for my kids for 10 minutes so I can talk in peace) “Mom, I NEED YOU TO WIPE!” (So much for talking to the editor without interruption) “Please keep it on, mom, please!” (That’s my kids begging for the TV to be left on.) “Mom, I need to read with you.” “Can you check my homework?” FWEEP. (That’s a text from my husband that he’s on the way) “Can I have a snack?” “I need help with these Legos.” “Where’s my ImaginIt book?” “BEEEP!” (That’s the sound of the smoke detector going off because I forgot about the dinner on the stove)
Hmmmm, when don’t I feel like I’m juggling a million things??!! I guess the morning is the craziest. Getting the kids up, fed, dressed, teeth brushed, medicine, making lunches, & off to school. Some days we do swim before school, too! Needless to say, I feel like an all-star player on those days 😉 Thanks for the opportunity…my fingers (& the boys) are crossed!
I am juggling the most things between 5-7 p.m. This is the time I’m making dinner, baths, keeping tempers calm, etc. Thanks!
I have a 9 month old and 2 active boys ages 6 & 9. After school is our crazy time! Helping with homework while cooking dinner and making sure that we get out of the house in time to make our sports practices is insane with a 9 month old crawling around and ripping up the homework! The boys would love these tickets and it would give them a huge reward for being such great big brothers!!
I am a pretty adept multi-tasker…at least, I like to think so…but, ever since I had kids, I find pre-dinnertime to be the biggest juggling act of the day. There’s my job to wrap up, kids to pick up…oh, yes, and dinner to prepare. Trouble is the kids are always hungry and dinner prep takes just a bit too long, so we also have to wedge a small and healthy snack in there (as if I don’t have enough other stuff to prepare). Some days, Scouts start at 6 so the whole routine gets shifted up by an hour or more. Hpmh, I get tired just thinking about it!
I would have to say first thing in the morning when my feet hit the floor from the bed, that’s when everything starts until the day ends. It’s literally non-stop and it’s unpredictable what may happen but I still have to keep the balls juggling.
From 3:00-8:00 when both kids are home, and it is time for carpool, activities for both, homework, dinner, bath, reading, and finally BED. Some days are better than others, but Wednesdays take the cake, with Tennis and Soccer for different kids in different locations and almost the same time. That is when dinner gets later and later! Oh wait, that is today!!! Plus laundry, dishes, making sure we have clothes for the next day, and any work I still need to get done.
At what point in your day do you most feel like a Harlem Globetrotter – or just someone who juggles a lot of balls in the air?
About 4 p.m. each day, when I’m trying to finish up work and prepping my brain for the 2nd mommie shift of chauffer, cook and tutor.
Definitely from 3:30 (bus arrives) to around 7. 3 kids… 3 different homework needs… dinner… my inbox pinging with work-related calls/ emails… and wanting to give each of these precious people some good face to face time… I’m learning to embrace the chaos!
Wen I have to plan the neighborhood Easter egg hunt and my son’s 5th birthday party (2 days apart), interview for a new job, get my husband’s business books ready for tax season, oh, and keep my hilarious 15 month old who still won’t sleep through the night entertained!
Hah! At Costco, just the other day. It was Team Mom (only one on this team, Dad was grabbing some steaks with the baby) vs. my two older kids. They were sprinting down the court (the aisles of Costco) and zigzagging through the large crates, in and out of products. I was there with arms stretched out, bouncing up and down, trying to block (and grab) these two to get control of the game. Ultimately, Team Mom wins….she always does.
Whenever I watch my grandkids. They are very busy and dinner and homework time can be challenging
I am always juggling balls, but especially in the afternoon when both kids are home, with homework, sports, music, dinner, bedtime, ETC. We’d LOVE to go see the Harlem Globetrotters!!
I left my fulltime office job to be home with my 4 kids (6, 4, 3 and 1) This is the hardest work I have ever done, but I feel that being somewhat organized has helped me. I feel most like a Harlem Globetrotter when I try to fall asleep at night. My mind will not stop thinking of what I need to do the next day and what I did not get to this day. But, we are all here and healthy and life is good.
When I’m watching my two boys, trying to get some sort of decent dinner on the table and my husband says he’s going to be home late.
I juggle every minute of every day, but especially first thing in the morning, when trying to get myself ready and out the door to work; my 6-year-old fed, dressed and out the door to school; my 2-year-old fed and dressed and out of temper tantrum mode; my 7-month-old up and fed; and breakfast on the table – all without any major meltdowns. It’s amazing the things I can do with one hand while nursing. I can save a whopping ten minutes if I breastfeed the baby next to the table while talking my 2-year-old through breakfast. Take that Kareem.
After school and on weekends……….14, 13, and 11 year olds, all playing soccer! 5 teams between them, at least 5, usually 7-9 games a week, practice everyday! Trying to coordinate carpools, uniforms, snacks, meals, homework………….I could use help from the Globetrotters!!!!!!
Pretty much ALL the time. With 3 kids (8, 6, and 2) there is ALWAYS something going on. We are most hectic in the mornings though. I have to get 3 kids up, fed, dressed, and make sure nothing is forgotten and out the door by 8am. Most days it’s pretty smooth, but some days I’m sure it looks like a comedy act!
Besides 24-7, the worst one would be between 5-8:30. I have to leave work on time, pick up 2 kids at different locations, manage emails, workout, boatd meetings, dinner, homework, reading, baths, brushteeth, paperwork and then kids are off to bed. I get tired just thinking about it!
My ball juggling comes into play from 3:00 – 8:00 – once the kids are finished with school: trying to get them to their various activities, get homework done, dinner on the table and get them to bed!
Monday morning after time change. Hubby out of town. First child wakes up 35 minutes before school starts. Second kid wakes up with raging fever. It was a harrowing few minutes- coaxing first to eat healthy breakfast, put on clothes, brush teeth, consoling sick child, carrying to car- all in a rush to get to school during drop-off so I don’t have to carry sick child inside school. Whew! We just made it.
Working full-time with a 2-year-old, 4-year-old and another on the way … life is a constant juggle. Even at 2 a.m. I wake up (usually to pee due to pregnancy) I have trouble going back to sleep because I’m already thinking of everything I need to do that day.
Definitel at the 3:00/hour when i am wrapping up at work and headed home to meet the bus. Office work ends and mommy work begins. Homework, sports, dinner, house, etc.
Like most other moms and caregivers, the Globetrotter moments happen all the time for me too. But I’m not complaining. My most cherished job is being a mom and I’m savoring every moment of it!
Pretty much ALL the time. With 2 kids that I am co-leader for both girl scout troops, after school activities and homework. There is ALWAYS something going on.
I feel like a Harlem Globetrotter when I’m making dinner, helping with 2nd Grade Homework, and entertaining my Toddler all at the same time!
As any mom, wife, and employee feels, I am constantly juggling balls. Until they drop and I crash. That’s when I need a night out with my family!
First thing in the morning, trying to get out of the door 🙂
The morning for sure!
Definitely morning…getting us up, ready and out the door takes lots of juggling!
Between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. when I’m juggling homework assistance duties, wrapping up work in my home office, and preparing dinner.
All day from the time my feet hit the floor at 6:30 am until I get in bed at 9:00 pm. I am constantly juggling.
My husband deserves the Harlem Globtrotter award! He does an amazing job balancing the busy schedule of our 2 kids and taking care of the dog, getting the kids lunches and making dinner, and doing all the laundry. He is super busy but does it all with a smile. Coincidentally, today is his birthday and he would love this great present!
Afternoons! After school pick up, homework, playground, toddler naptime (sometimes in his car seat), sports, cooking dinner, baths, bedtime stories etc. Afternoons…nonstop!
Sheesh… This week has been non-stop juggling because my two little boys (ages 4 and 2) have been pretty sick back to back. I’ll spare you the details, but I’m so exhausted from trying to keep our household running while doing endless loads of laundry (bedding and clothes) and mopping, cleaning the carpets, sanitizing— desperately trying to control the “mess.” (you know what I’m talking about.
It’s been a really rough week for our little family, and now that we are all healthy, seeing the Harlem Globtrotters would really lift our spirits. Thanks for considering us!!
