I recently came across new programming on Nickelodeon. No, it’s not a newly animated series, or another character over green screen, but rather programing that is totally and completely made for Mommies. It’s called “NickMom”.
I had seen a couple of TV commercials for the mommy-centric shows during my kid’s morning shows. I was intrigued. I watched it the other night and thought it was pretty entertaining. The show I watched had somewhat of a Tosh.O and Talk Soup feeling, called Parental Discretion. It had a host that was yukking it up showing clips and also showing her own video of her getting a tattoo. I thought she was hilarious. I think that the host can make or break a show like this and let me tell you, I thought this lady had the funny chops to keep the show light-hearted and comical. They also had an interview portion where the host would ask a panel of three women questions about topics. Some would consider it spicy for Nickelodeon as they talked about (gasp) S-E-X. Again, it was done with humor.
NickMom airs every night at 10pm, long after the kiddos are (or shall I say, should be) asleep. They have a variety of shows from a reality show about two “MFFs (Mom Friends Forever)” to “What Was Carol Brady Thinking?”
To me it feels like the equivalent of “Adult Swim” on Cartoon Network. Kiddie shows during the day and adult shows after the sun sets. Speaking of sun setting though, from articles I’ve read, there is a flaw in the airing of the programming. It starts at 10pm EST/7pm EST. The start time is not ideal for our friends west of the Mississippi, as their little ones still look for “iCarly”. Other than that, I love the idea of mommy shows. Now if I only could find time to watch it….
For all the Smarties that stay up past 10pm, what do you think about the new programs on Nickelodeon? Have you watched any of the NickMom shows?
