I’m excited to introduce you to this week’s Smarty Mom, Jennifer Alessi. Jennifer is the marketing coordinator extraordinaire for FlyWheel Stadium Cycling, Charlotte’s newest workout obsession (check out the Smarty review here). She’s in charge of making sure everyone in the city knows how awesome FlyWheel is, and well, we like to think we’re in charge of making sure everyone in Charlotte knows just how awesome she is.
She’s been with FlyWheel for about six months, but before that she was a stay-at-home mom to her three children, Carter, Masy, and Ansley. She worked in sales before “retiring” temporarily when her oldest was 2. This opportunity with FlyWheel came up, and she just couldn’t turn it down. It’s a natural fit with her sales background.
You’ll see Jennifer’s pretty face hanging around both FlyWheel locations – on Providence Road and in Blakeney. Like the rest of the staff, she’s always smiling and friendly – exactly what you want to see before or after a killer workout. Make sure to say Hi to her next time you’re in the studio!
Smarties, meet Jennifer Alessi, this week’s SuperFLY Smarty Mom!

How did you get involved with FlyWheel? I started working at FlyWheel because I was going there so much. I went when the Providence Rd location first opened this past March. I fell in love with the workout, which I have never felt about working out before. I started telling people how great it was. I thought, why not make it official. That’s how my role as the Marketing Coordinator began. It has been such a blast!
Tell us why you think FlyWheel is special. Its a different experience then a gym or a fitness class. I don’t have to do anything but go there. They help me set up, they have towels and water and shoes. And its very clean. As a mom, I’m used to doing everything for everyone its nice to have someone else taking care of things. It’s a great escape. It is also a very efficient workout. In 45 min I can burn 700 or more. I think I can fit that into my schedule.
How does working out make you a better mama? It helps me relieve stress and it gives me energy. I feel it also sets a good example for my kids. It is part of our lifestyle. They see how I make exercise a priority and they no longer question why they need to stop watching tv and go out and play.
FlyWheel constantly has “charity” rides for local or national causes – explain why community is so important to FlyWheel. Flywheel is committed to each community we have a studio in and making those communities stronger, healthier and happier. When we do charity classes, we donate our time and class with 100% of proceeds going to the partnering charity. Community responsibility is very important to Flywheel and our involvement with local and charitable initiatives allows us to get closer to our members and support those organizations they are closely tied to and that will make a difference in the community.
Have you seen a big change in your fitness level since working for a fitness company? Yes. Because I am there, why not workout. Plus the instructors are all full of energy. The studio has a fun vibe that makes you want to be there. I feel like I am missing out when I hear a class was full, there was an awesome playlist, or about a new routine in Flybarre class.
Now for the fun stuff…
Celebrity crush? Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth are looking pretty good these days 😉
Favorite Thanksgiving tradition in your family? Staying home. We try to spend a lot of time together and reflect on being thankful. We put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving. It is great family bonding time.
Best way to relax (after all being around fitness 24/7!)? I enjoy reading. I am always reading something. It helps my mind relax. I just finished Gone Girl. Highly recommend it.
Best family outing in Charlotte? We love going into the city. We have seen numerous shows, concerts and sporting events. We always have a fun adventure when we are in the city.
Best date night restaurant in Charlotte? After all these years, we still enjoy a nice dinner at Upstream.
Favorite family summer vacation spot? We go to the Isle of Palms every summer for a week. The kids love it. We have a lot of great memories there so far.
Thing you couldn’t live without? My family! They remind me everyday of what is important in life. They have taught me countless lessons about unconditional love and enjoying being “in the moment”. I feel very blessed and I am forever grateful.
Thank you, Jen, for sharing your family with us! See you on the bike!
