Smarties, there’s a new workout in town and it’s AMAZING. Flywheel and FlyBarre – have you been yet?
Flywheel Stadium Cycling is a super high-energy, fast-paced cycling cardio extravaganza. You will leave a sweaty, hot mess, but you’ll be on endorphin overload. Trust me.
I, along with the rest of the Smarty party sisters, have been trying it out over the last couple of weeks and I just have one thing to say: addiction. I can speak for my other Smarties that they are all hooked as well.
I’ve never been a spinner – I am a runner through and through, and the spinning classes at the Y stress me out so much with the get-there-30-minutes-early-to-get-your-pass thing. So I hesitated to hit FlyWheel because I thought it was just another spinning class – I was so wrong.
First part of the awesomeness is that you can reserve your bike online. You and your friends just tell each other what bike you’ve got and get next to each other (word of advice: if you’re uber competitive like myself, make sure to get to the left of your friend. You can see her performance but she can’t see yours hee hee). Clip-in shoes are provided – and they’re clean. No bowling shoes here. Make sure to grab one of the free towels because you’re gonna need it in about 5 minutes.
It can be intimidating starting a new type of work out, but Flywheel does an exceptional job in making you feel welcome. Someone helps you figure out how your bike should be (seat height, etc.) – I have that person help me every time I go. I never can remember my numbers. They explain everything before class starts so never is there a time where you feel like you’re in the dark.
That is, until they turn the lights out and start class. Flywheel is set up with stadium seating so you can always see the instructor. The music starts pumping and after the first song, wham, you’re sweating like Tina Turner and her Proud Mary cronies. Speaking of music, it’s um…awesome. It’s curated by an in-house DJ – think remixes, mash-ups, and everything in between.
There is a screen at the front of the room where class members can share their performance (this is optional and I haven’t been brave enough to do it) – it’s a great way to gauge how hard you’re working. Even if you don’t opt for this public display of your awesomeness, every work out at Flywheel is tracked on your online account. You can log right in and see how far you went, how well you performed and how many calories you burned. This is the best part…you can burn an average of 500-700 calories in 45 minutes. Yes, you read that right.
It’s 45 of the most intense, I-think-I’m-having-a-heart-attack-or-might-hurl minutes you’ll spend on any given day but it is SO worth it. You’ll be an endorphin high for the next 6 hours.
If you need a little strengthening and toning, check out a FlyBarre class – it’s a total body sculpting class that blends the best of light weight training, dance, and core strengthening exercises. Using small intense interval exercises choreographed to the same great music, FlyBarre quickly reshapes the body for lean, strong, and elongated muscles.
If you need to shower after either class, no problem. All you need to bring is your clothes and make up. Seriously – they have towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash (made by Bliss especially for Flywheel – not that mystery stuff in most gyms), hair dryers, even rubber bands if you forget yours!
Now’s the time to go because: 1. There is an open house all next week (starting October 22) at the Blakeney location. ALL classes are free. You can just walk in or call 704.209.7612 or email ballantyne@flywheelsports.com; and 2. They have a whole new pricing structure at both locations – single rides are $18, packages as low as $14 a ride, and intro monthly memberships rates for $99 for unlimited cycle or barre or $149 both. Click here for more info on packages or here for more info on monthly unlimited (pricing is the same at both locations).

I have heard so much about this and would love to give it a try!
It’s a great workout and it’s lots of fun!!!
Would love to try this out! Hopefully it would jump start my motivation!
I’d love to give this a try!
Jen P. said it’s awesome and I’m dying to try it!
As a wife, working mom, graduate student, I need this for my sanity – to have 45 minutes of “me” time to sweat it out, feel good and get healthy. Because we all know sitting at a desk all day is not good for us. Plus, I’m a little addicted to barre classes and this could help feed that addiction – in a good way! 🙂
I would love to give this a try!
I NEED this workout to get back on track and ready for the holidays! I have been dying to try both classes. Sounds like a seriously fun workout 🙂
Would love to try this out!
Would love to try this class out!
I NEED to get back into shape and unfortunatly don’t have the funds right now to do so! 🙁
I have gone to a handful of flywheel classes and absolutely love it! It is an amazing workout and would love to go more consistently to get into better shape!
Need this SO much….
1. it makes me a much nicer mama and wife
2. it keeps me out of marshalls and target
3. so close to my house/such a convenience
Lovin’ your thought process, Hannah Banana:-)
This state employee and grad student NEEDS free, rejuvenation and Flywheel has it all!!
Sounds incredible! We should get some of those machines for our office!
I’m on a mission and I’m pretty sure Flywheel can get me there!
I hope I win the free month! I love trying new things and I haven’t been to Fly Wheel yet. So pick me!!! 🙂
I would love the free month…need to lose the rest of the post baby weight and reduce some stress
New Baby is 3 months old and finally on some sort of schedule so that I can get some exercise in without worrying she’ll be hungry. Now is the time to start on the post baby body journey and this sounds perfect!
I need this to get this post-baby body back in shape, but especially to get heart healthy!!
Exercise keeps me sane! 🙂 Would love to try it out!!
I teach about 140 elementary students a day, then I go home to our 19 month old little girl. Flywheel is “me” time. I’m addicted. 🙂
Full-time teacher – 3 of my own kids (7,9,11) – who are involved in 6 sports total- I need some me time! (not to mention get some exercise, too!)
I need a new workout routine with some serious stress relief. My husband hates paying for alternate workout locations since we belong to the y, and it sucks. I am over power hour, but I could use a serious butt-kicking. Did I mention I am currently sitting in the hospital with my 7-year-old with CF on a PICC line, trying to figure out if/how my husband can get here with my 2 other kids. I need some stress relief, ladies!!!
CP, it’s on. to the left…that is sneaky. Can’t wait to get back in the swing, hopefully next week! Sign me up! I LOVE LOVE the FW classes. It’s such a nice change up from all of pounding we do running and such.
I definitely don’t deserve it as much as Erin but would love to try out Flywheel bc ive heard nothing but great things about it. I have an idea – pick both Erin and me (since there are two prizes). Erin – ill be on your left my friend:)
Ps – Tell C to drop off kiddos here for a sleepover.
This place is fantastic. Finally a decent spinning class in Charlotte!
I would love to try this class! I’ve been trying to run lately to try and tone up after babies. Running just is not fun though! This seems like it would be so much more enjoyable.
I love spinning and have heard great things about this place!
Postpartum.
I am a runner but would love to try flywheel out to mix up my routine!
Love to try it!
Been wanting to try this because I love spinning!
I’m brand new to Charlotte and was so excited to hear about FlyWheel Sports! I went and tried a free class today out in Ballantyne and LOVED flybarre! My work schedule is finally at a place where I could actually make some of the class times (unlike the last 4 years!) so I’d really love to start off on the right foot in a great new city! 🙂 Finger’s crossed to win!!
i’m terrified but in!!! 😉
Need it for some serious peace of mind and stress relief!
I am a runner and would love to mix it up a bit and try something new! I also work full-time, although my schedule is flexible and would allow me to take these classes, and have a four year old, two year old, and four month old, so a little time to myself to do something fun while also getting a great workout and feeling great after would be awesome!
I need to lose the baby weight!!
I totally need this! I have finally gotten focused on my health and fitness, and I’m training for my first 5K in a month. These classes would show me a whole new approach to fitness, right at the time that I’m ready to jump in!
Awesome workout to get the stress out and see some results!
Would love to mix things up a bit and get out of my comfort zone!
I would love to try out Flywheel!
I want to win this so badly!! Flywheel is my new addiction!:)
I NEED this month because I have just spent the last four weeks on crutches recovering from knee surgery. The longest I have ever gone without a workout. I will only be able to cycle and I love Flywheel!!
I’m hooked already.
With foot surgery 3 weeks ago, I feel FAT! I need something to jump start me!
This sounds awesome! I desperately need this because I am having a baby in 3 weeks and I have to get this weight off!!
Such a great stress relief and I need a post baby workout
Stress relief and will need it to get back in shape after having a baby!
i could use a little fly in my life…
This mom of twins seriously needs to lose the baby weight. Does it still count as baby weight now that they are six years old? Will admit to being a bit indimidated so maybe this is the push that I need to get back in shape.
oops.
we all need to fly sometimes
Looking forward to this getting me in shape!
I fly in between patient’s in the hospital but need some time to just take care of me…maybe this is my answer?! Would love to take a test spin…pretty please:)
