I’m excited to introduce everyone to Stephanie Glickman. She is one of the first mommies I met out and about during my maternity leave that helped initiate me into the NuMama Sorority. Recently, she volunteered to become President of our neighborhood HOA and to help shape the experiences in our ‘hood. Let’s get to know Stephanie and her family…and keep reading for a fun surprise!

Please share your delivery story.
Favorite story of my life! I was given the best Mother’s Day gift of 2011 when Taylor made her appearance at 10:07pm. There were some nerves about thinking that I may have labored all of Mother’s Day for her to not arrive but she and I made it work with 2 hrs to spare. I had an amazing natural birth experience in the comfort of my own home. My husband was my supportive labor coach and we had 2 midwives present during the delivery. People often ask “What would you do if something went wrong?” Well, we had our share of complications. She ended up being breech…surprise! So there was a quick change of plans right at the end. She also had a very short umbilical cord that tore during the final push. So what did we do? We let the trained midwives do what they do so well. Complication was more like a pebble in the road. Taylor was healthy as could be, never cried, and had the brightest and most alert blue eyes. Todd, Taylor and I snuggled in our bed for hours together just relishing in our newly formed family. I wouldn’t change a thing!
How was your transition back to work?
My first day back consisted of me getting pulled over in Winston-Salem for speeding. Why you ask? I HAD to get to the office for a pump session before our 9am meeting started. And what did I tell the officer? Exactly that! I whipped out the breast pump, cried my eyes out, and told him how it was my first day away from my baby. The heartless man still gave me a ticket!
All in all I am fortunate enough that my job is a combination of home office days and light travel to our sites across the state so many days I was able to be home with her with the help of a nanny. She’s 13 months now and I still hate leaving her in the morning. It never gets easier, just more routine. She goes to a great daycare now where she is learning so much and enjoying time with other kids so I take comfort in knowing that she’s happy.
What made you want to become more involved in your neighborhood?
I live by the philosophy that you don’t have the right to complain about something unless you’re actively doing something about it. I also love seeing the girls in our neighborhood riding their scooters and bikes and having lemonade stands, the boys playing football and basketball everyday…I want to be active in making sure that kids are still doing that when Taylor is that age.
