Our favorite family activity in the Summer is spending an evening outdoors with the children — once it cools off, it’s actually not that bad outside. We love to get chic-fil-a and let the children have a “picnic” in the yard….then we blow bubbles, ride bikes around the driveway, and maybe even catch some lightening bugs. It’s a great way for Mom & Dad to relax (and perhaps enjoy a cocktail) while the children enjoy the evening. And it’s a heck of a lot less stressful (and more cost efficient) than eating out with small children.
Favorite summer activity-riding our bikes at the greenway by our house. It’s all wooded and so nice to go to after dinner. Kids get to see nature, it’s quiet and feels like you are far away from all the hustle and bustle.
Grab a sheet and secure it on the driveway….get some washable paints and let the kids drive the race cars through the paint to decorate the sheet. When they are tired of painting, use a water table and have a car wash to clean up. This is much less stressful than art anywhere in the house.

Farmers market contest! Think Iron Chef! I love healthy competition and cooking. I like to get at least four neighbors and their kids to meet at a farmers market. Each family much purchase one common item and three items of their choice. The common item is often the most unusual item we can find (last time shallot flowers). After shopping, the families meet up later that evening with a dish they have prepared from the ingredients. Everyone eats, parents enjoy cocktails, and the kids play; no voting is required unless it makes it more fun. It’s a great way to encourage kids to try new foods.

One of the best ways to beat the heat with 3 car-crazy little boys is to make the ultimate car wash outside. We take all their ride-on cars, cozy coupes and even mommy’s car – give the kids buckets of soapy water and hoses and let them go to town! Not only does it keep us cool, but it gives all the toys a good, well needed cleaning!
In late spring we plant our family garden. I let the kids pick out their own vegetables and herbs to plant and care for. Throughout the summer we fertilize, water and prune the plants. It’s amazing how proud my children are of the plants they have grown and what they are willing to eat because it came from their garden. Zucchini, anyone??
Our favorite summer activity is grilling out! The kids help shuck corn and peel onions while I slice, dice and marinade…and dad fires up the barbecue. We get out the kiddie pool and the sprinkler and play around while we prepare our feast. Always a fun, casual time we enjoy together.
Our favorite summer activity is spending the afternoon at the pool with friends. We also love visiting Grandpa in Virginia and going swimming in the river!
Our favorite summer time activity is getting wet! Pool, spraygrounds, lake, ocean or just the waterhose in the yard!
We just moved to Charlotte last month and so were still trying to learn all the fun things to do around here…and thanks to your website we’ve had an awesome time discovering NC!! Some of our favorite summer activities so far have been going to see Shrek, lunch at Taste of Charlotte, spending a day at the NC Transportation Museum for Rail Days, playing in the fountains at Birkdale and going to many of the wonderful parks! However, when you’ve got a 1 year old and a 2 year old, sometimes there’s nothing better to beat the heat then to fill up the kiddie pool and take a dip in the backyard!!!

Hey! My son Jack is 3 and loves to shake his tail feathers! I would love to bring him to a Wiggles show but my husband can’t justify the cost so…free is our only ticket to the Wiggles. Plus it would be an awesome reward for pooping on the potty, RIGHT? Thanks for considering us. Keep dancing!
Our favorite summer activity is hanging out in the backyard shade and playing in the kiddie pool! We also like going out for ice cream at some of the nearby fro -yo shops.
Our favorite summer time activity is swimming and riding 4-wheelers and gators! We love going to SC to our camper and riding the trails! It is great family time!
We love beach trips, building sandcastles, & swimming!
We love getting wet any which way we can!
We love the sprinkler and the pool. If it’s raining we go “swimming” in the big bath tub:)
We love going to the pool and grilling out and playing outside in the evenings with friends.
Our favorite summer activity is taking a walk to the park in the evenings after it has cooled down a little.

Curious as well, who one?
Eating watermelon and catching lightning bugs with our kids.
We just moved to the Charlotte area and are loving family time in the new community pool, meeting our new neighbors and cooling off! The big boy even went down the waterslide all by himself!
