Summer pedicures have always been a treat for me. I never bother with manicures because they don’t last, nor do I ever have the time to wait for them to dry. But I can whip on some flips and run out the door with a wet pedi, so those have always been my favorite pampering indulgence. Well with the state of the current economy, I have cut back in a lot of areas, including pedicures. So now, I only get one if I have a specific event coming up and then I do everything I can to make it last.
One trick I have learned is to apply oil on your cuticles everyday after you get out of the shower. The best nail oil is Solar Oil and it has almond oil in it so it smells extra yummy while keeping your skin hydrated. You can find Solar Oil at most beauty supply stores or nail salons. By keeping your toes well-hydrated (works just as well or better on your hands too!), your pedi will last twice as long. Plus, it just looks better.
Another Smarty saver is to alternate getting a pedicure and then just get a polish change next time. With a polish change, you usually get filing, oil and new polish all for only $10. You also save time by getting a polish change – 20 minutes and you’re done as opposed to at least 45 minutes for a full pedi. Yes, I can do this on my own, but I never do as good of a job, I certainly don’t have the entire color palette of OPI polish, and for some reason, mine never lasts as long.
I did a little Smarty research at my favorite nail spot, Exquisite Nails in Foxcroft Village. Pedicures cost $30 and a polish change costs $10. That’s pretty substantial for me – every penny saved is a penny earned!

Great Tips and thanks!! I've also learned that if you have a french Pedicure or a lighter color to ask for a special "sun proof" clear coat. If you are out in the sun quite a bit the sun will yellow a french pedicure or manicure pretty quickly !

Jen~I can't find Exquisite Nails in the phonebook or Google. I was just going out for a pedicure this morning but was going out to Blakeney…Foxcroft is much closer. I think I'll try your place but I want to know what time it opens. Thanks! Nikki
Hey Nikki-I think it used to be called Nails 2, it's now called Exquisite Nails:7806 Fairview RoadCharlotte, NC 28226p 704-442-0820*Behind Blockbuster and Brixx Pizza in Foxcroft Village (Ben & Jerry's too!)
This is my fav place as well…especially bc they are open on Sundays!
My Bella Spa at Blakeney has regular pedis for $25, spa pedis for $35. The difference is with the spa pedi you get a parafin wax, a mud treatment, and the foam toe separators instead of tissue. With the regular pedi you still get a good soak, calluses scrubbed, cuticles trimmed and oiled, and lotion on your feet and lower legs. I go for the cheaper option, and bring back my toe separators. Monday thorugh Wednesday you can get a manicure and pedicure for $35 if you're looking for a real bargain (and if you can make a manicure last. Like Jen, I gave up on them a long time ago). Appointments are not necessary. Hope this helps all you smarty moms out there have pretty toes this summer! Betsy
Having a family of girls, we polish our toes a lot. I have found that re-applying a clear top coat every so often really extends a polish job too. Also, when I was splurging on gel nails, I found that they actually melt in the sun. If you spend a lot of time out in the sun, try to avoid these.
