I have been counting down the days since my girls were born when they would be old enough to participate in Girls on the Run. My oldest only has one more year to go – wahoo! My girls have seen me running for as long as they can remember. Although I’m no marathon runner, I truly enjoy the sense of accomplishment that I feel after a run, no matter how long my distance is. My hope is that my girls will want to be a tiny bit like me and enjoy running.
Girls on the Run is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. GOTR is for girls from 3rd through 8th grade. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games, and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health. During the 12-week program, girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, content and self-confident young women.
This Saturday, May 10th, you can help with Girls on the Run Charlotte’s annual fundraiser, The Girls on the Run WonderGirl 5K.
