Did you know February is National Ice Skating month? It’s the perfect time to introduce your kids to the sport – yep, down South we have to make a conscious effort to show them how fun ice skating is – we can’t just hop on to a frozen lake and make Figure 8s (although this week might be the exception – where are we living, the North Pole?! It’s freezing!).
Ice skating is a lifelong skill – just like swimming, riding a bike, and playing a musical instrument. And, like everything else, if kids learn it early on, they tend to have more confidence and resilience on and off the ice. Plus, who knows, you might just be raising the next Kristi Yamaguchi or Mike Fisher (aka Carrie Underwood’s pro-hockey-hubbie). You never know until you lace up those blades and see what they can do.
The peeps at Extreme Ice Center are making it super easy for you to get your little ones comfortable on the ice – they are giving away a FREE introductory ice skating lesson on February 23. Registration is super simple – just click here. What a fun way to spend a Saturday!
Extreme Ice Center (XIC) is the best place for ice skating in Charlotte – if you haven’t been there yet, put it on your To Do list. They have tons of new stuff going on right now, too, including new Sunday “Learn to Skate” classes that are only $100 for Snow Buddy 1 & Basic 1. It includes US Figure Skating registration, free skate rentals, and free public session on the day of the lesson. If a class has already started, make ups are allowed – major bonus – check their web site for more details.
XIC is fun for kids AND adults – there are tons of kids’ classes, adult lessons, plus youth and adult hockey leagues. Free skate time is a great family event with awesome music and yummy refreshments – plus it’s a fun way to tone those thighs and glutes for bathing suit season (gotta sneak in a workout whenever you can!). Visit their website for more info: www.xicenter.com
Voting is under way for the 2013 Smarty Awards! It’s your turn to shout out to your favorite local businesses. We’ve asked our Smarty Moms and Dads every Saturday for over FIVE years about their favorite things to do around the QC. It’s time to give these businesses some much deserved recognition and let you, Smarty Charlotte, cast your vote. Click here to vote!
