Gifts ideas for 3 and 4 year old boys and girls? here you go!
Dollhouse for sure – I like the wooden dollhouses, like the Ryan’s Room, Home Again, Home Again-A-Frame for around $100. We bought the basement too and asked for the rooms from our family, which made Christmas shopping super easy for them last year (see doll house here in photo from last Christmas).
I also like the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Dollhousefor $80-ish or a smaller version (Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Fold & Go) for $50-ish. Melissa & Doug also sells cool rooms and dolls separately. And actually, even though this stuff is the biggest choking hazard in my house, my 21-month-old twins would DIE to play with this. Every time they gain the secret access to their big sister’s room, they run for the dollhouse in a full-on sprint! I’m thinking in a year or so, we can just hand-me-down the dollhouse since it’s a neutral finish!
We’re big American Girl fans so my girls got the Bitty Baby Twins for $87 at age 3 and still play with them. You can also buy a zillion super cute outfits and accessories to go with the Bitty Twins.
My girls love to cook and this seemed to really kick in at age 3 ½ or so. I bought them a groovy apron, like this one at Williams Sonoma,
Here’s a cute boy version.
It’s probably time for the big boy Razor Scooter starting at around $30. Just really enforce the pad rule – must wear pads and helmets at all times because these things fly down hills. I think we did the 3-wheeled scooter at age 2 ½ and then promoted to the Razor at age 4.
Boys and girls alike would enjoy the LeapFrog Leapster Learning Game System (green for boys) and Leapster in Pink for girls) for around $50. I actually really like the Leapster since the games are all very educational and great for a long car-ride. My oldest still uses hers on trips and she’s 6. I just haven’t bit the bullet and bought the GameBoy. She hasn’t really asked for it, so I’m not giving it!
Another gender-neutral gift idea is a portable dvd player which have come down so much in price over the past two years. Here’s one by Audiovox for $100. Even though we have a dvd player in our car, our third-row passengers (yes, I drive a bus!) totally get the shaft because we’re usually on Baby Einstein marathons for the twins! So, my oldest packs along her own personal dvd player which comes in handy wherever she goes.
So where do you find all of this stuff locally? You can get the dollhouses at upscale toy stores like Bedford Falls Toys in Park Road Shopping Center or the new Toys & Co. in Cotswold. Williams Sonoma is located in Specialty Shops at the Park in SouthPark. You can also find cute monogrammed aprons at most monogramming boutiques. You can find the Razor scooter and Leapsters at Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s, Costco, BJ’s, etc. Same with the portable dvd player. Also, remember, if you order from Amazon.com, make sure you check out the free super saver shipping. Most of these gifts have free shipping if you order this week. This makes extra sense if you are shipping to out of town neices and nephews. Who wants to pay for shipping?
Happy shopping! More to come on gift ideas for all ages!
Dont forget about Black Forest Books and Toys on Cherokee Rd, off of Providence Rd. I LOVE that store! They have dollhouses, etc, and can order lots of different brands/styles. There is a reason they have been around for 25+ years….
