What can I say about “Miss Jenny.” The truth is, what can’t I say about Miss Jenny… she is the heart and soul of St. John’s Preschool. She is there to greet you in the morning and bid you farewell in the afternoon. She is never without a tremendous smile. What I love most – she puts your children first! In the carpool line, my twins pray that she is the one that is going to open their door. They LOOOOOOOOOVE her! Her kindness, grace and warmth is felt throughout the entire school. I feel so incredibly blessed to have her in my children’s lives. It is the most amazing feeling to be able to drop off your children and know they are safe and loved.

Save the date, Smarties. Junie B. is in town with Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s latest production and your kiddoes will LOOOOOOOOVE this performance. Yes, the Junie B. Jones series can be controversial with parents. She’s sassy. The grammar/language is not perfect…. Some people interpret her as being rude and disrespectful. It is written in the point of view of a kindergartner. Junie B.’s character celebrates everything about being 6 years old! She doesn’t mean to be disrespectful. She is just an active 6-year old little girl questioning life as it is being thrown at her. So, I beg you, if you are one of those parents that are on the fence about going to see this play – GIVE IT A CHANCE! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!! Okay with that said, here is my review… Read More →

Quietly nestled in the corner of the Blakeney Shopping Center is one of the most charming little toys stores filled with the most amazing treasures. Do you know which one I am talking about? I know you do, it is called Brilliant Sky. And it is indeed, BRILLIANT. Immediately, as you walk through the doors you are welcomed by the friendliest staff. Smiles for miles is what I call them. How can you not be happy being surrounded by all those amazing toys? Let’s chat a minute about these toys…. the selection is fantastic. To narrow the choice to one toy is almost impossible. I have toys picked out for every special occasion up the age of 10 for my boys, mind you they are only 4 – yes, that is how awesome the toy selection is! Brilliant Sky is locally owned by two amazing women, Nancy Brislin and Susan Phillips.
Nancy Brislin has been with Brilliant Sky (Blakeney) since its doors opened in 2008. As you enter the store, she takes an interest in getting to know you. I was lucky enough to have Nancy give me a personal tour and teach me about all the different toys. I was amazed at her knowledge. I was certain she had a degree in education – nope, this just comes natural to her. She is that special (in the pink and green world we call her SMARTY!) She told me her goal is to “provide the highest level of customer service and ensure every customer has a good experience shopping at Brilliant Sky.” I have to say she has exceeded her goal. Nancy has called the Charlotte area home for the past 25 years (Charlotte is lucky to have her ☺ ) She and her husband Neal have three daughters and three very spoiled dogs. Read More →
Have you ever met someone that you instantly click with? That’s Melissa. We met a little over a year ago and I don’t think a day has gone by that we have not communicated in some form of another. At first, we were two moms new to Charlotte seeking out friends for our little ones to play with. Our friendship has developed into something so much more. She is an amazing mom, wonderful friend and so much fun to be around. Her personality is like sunshine. She brings the good in everything. I feel like I have known her my whole life. She is the sister I never had.
Smarties, after you read this interview you are going to want to be friends with her, too. I am honored to introduce my friend, this week’s Smarty Mom: Melissa Miller.

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s newest production, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever the Musical is the PERFECT way to get you into the holiday spirit. It’s a musical the entire family can enjoy. Moms and dads will connect with characters that will remind them from someone in their past.
Me, it was the Bradley family. My younger brother could have been Charlie – standing up to the Heardmans, bragging about Sunday school, not realizing what he was saying (I don’t want to give away too many details). Me, I was Beth. Standing up for my mom, believing in my mom, being swayed by the true spirit of Christmas. My mom was Grace Bradley, “Amazing Grace,” the fair and objective mom. The mom who is empathetic to others’ feelings.
For my husband, it was the Herdmans. He attended Catholic grade school where he learned to become an alter boy. He vividly remembers a family where the boys used to steal from the donation plate and sneak behind the alter and drink the wine.
For your kids, they will enjoy seeing all the children perform. My boys laughed and laughed and laughed. They also left with a lot of questions. Good questions. Thought provoking questions. The Heardmans opened their eyes to a new perspective. A perspective that made more sense to them…. again, I do not want to give away too many details.
We all have stories that connect us to Christmas. This musical reminds us of our memories. It also reminds us of the true spirit of Christmas and this holiday season.
We have a Smarty Surprise! The Best Christmas Pageant Ever the Musical is selling out fast and our friends at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte have secured us 2 seats to attend any show this weekend.

Margie Eades. What is it about her that makes her so SMARTY? She is real. She is honest. She is kind. She is thoughtful. She is empathetic. She is heartfelt. She listens. She really, really, really listens. She is a survivor. Her smile lights up a room. Her faith inspires people. She is an amazing person, mother, mentor and friend. She is my prayer warrior. When you are around her, you feel like you are at home. Her stories remind you that she is human and life is a constant struggle. She will keep you in stitches!
You are probably thinking, there is just no way Jenni Strazz — you are exaggerating! Nope. I promise you, I am not exaggerating. Just read what others say about her,
“Margie is a woman of strong faith who touches everyone she comes into contact with. She continually goes out of her way to make a positive impact on others lives, especially moms. Margie is a blessing.”
~ Lauren Burke
“Margie is a wonderful friend, mother and grandmother. She makes time for the causes that affect many of us, like cancer research, and the moms that just need a little help. She has been incredibly supportive through one of the most difficult times in my life and I consider myself very lucky to have her as a friend.”
~ Erica Miller
“Margie has a generous heart. Her dedication to St. Gabriel’s Christian Mother’s Group is extraordinary.”

Presidential Performance! Star-Spangled Singing! Official-ly Outstanding!
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, you outdid yourself with this musical! I am not even sure if I am going to be able to put into words how A+MAZING it is. You even had my husband captivated. It is a MUST see.
Smarties, stop what you are doing, click on the link and purchase tickets. It is that good. Standing ovation good. My twins are still talking about it. They learned so much on opening night. What an amazing teaching tool! If this was out during my time as a fourth-grade teacher – this would be our field trip. TEACHERS, IF YOU ARE READING THIS — THIS SHOULD BE YOUR FIELD TRIP. The entire audience was engaged from start to finish. I loved seeing all the children’s faces during the campaigning scenes. It was so much fun. We all left with an overwhelming sense of happiness that the best person for the job was elected. You could hear the kids all talking and cheering for Grace as they exited the theatre. Another thing, we all left with a full understanding of the electoral college. Do you know how many years it has taken me to understand the electoral college? I even campaigned for a presidential nominee and worked in Washington, DC for a Senator and it wasn’t until last Friday night that I can finally say, “I get it!” Read More →
