Here’s to the next decade of Smarty Pants! Merry EVERYTHING, Smarties! XOXO
The Buttercup Charlotte Featuring:
MADE in the Deep South ~ KAYLEE LUNDBERG
Our Smarty friends at the Buttercup had a changing of the guards recently and are now 2nd generation Charlotte family-owned, and we couldn’t be more excited and proud of them! The Buttercup is a Charlotte icon tucked right in the heart of Myers Park and is hands down the best spot to shop for gifts this holiday season – from candles, to jewelry, to art, and stationery, now offering in-house monogramming – you’ll find something for everyone on your holiday list!
The Buttercup did a very special collab for us with a new line they carry, MADE in the Deep South. These could possibly be the most uniquely fabulous pieces of jewelry I have ever seen, and the Buttercup is the only shop in the QC who carries them! Smarty Alert: The Buttercup is hosting a MADE in the Deep South trunk show through Sunday December 17th – so you can shop and make sure your hubby knows what you really want under the tree this year – wink, wink!
On MADE in the Deep South:
MADE in the Deep South jewelry line was created with the idea of making “one-of-a-kind” pieces for women that strive to express their own personal style. We start with vintage and antique pieces that are collected all over the world, some dating back to the 1800s. The vintage pieces are then deconstructed, mixed with other pieces and other materials to create “new,” stand-out jewelry. Every MADE piece is unique and varies in style depending upon the piece itself, and the era it came from. They all have their own history and story to tell. Each MADE piece is adorned with a “story card” that provides its very own biography.
Kaylee won the gorgeous 1960s Brooch (featured above) from an Illinois estate!

Two Bees Cashmere ~ JEN KNAPP
I stumbled upon a GEM on an instagram binge I had recently while waiting in a carpool line and I just knew it had to be top of my favorite things list. Two Bees Cashmere has gorgeous sweaters, shawls, hats and more that are a must for your winter wardrobe. I’m seriously crushing on this shawl and it needs to be under my Smarty tree:
About Two Bees:
Our story began over a decade ago when the hunt for design driven, affordable cashmere left us empty handed. Since the beginning, we have strived to fill that void creating a cashmere collection for life’s everyday adventures. Two Bees Cashmere brings a tailored fit, coupled with a coastal-inspired design story that takes us through each season. We believe everyday is an adventure and that cashmere should be with you on these journeys, not left on a shelf.
Two Bees Cashmere is working tirelessly with our factory to create a specialized cashmere that washes with ease and wears well. We continue to be on the cutting edge of making cashmere an accessible luxury for today’s active lifestyle. Let our sweaters help you experience livable luxury.
Jen won a Two Bees Plaid Trim Tunic, a holiday wardrobe essential that can go from carpool to cocktails.

Elizabeth McKay ~ TAMMY PANOVICH
I first discovered Elizabeth McKay a few years ago and absolutely fell head over heels in love with the simple feminine detail on every piece.
Whether it’s the perfectly ruffled new Elizabeth top, or the signature party dress, Elizabeth’s designs make you feel special. I have acquired a nice collection of Elizabeth McKay pieces and I kid you not, every single time I wear one, I get stopped and have to give the names of all of the Charlotte boutiques who carry her! The lines in every Elizabeth McKay piece fit as if I had them custom tailored for me – absolutely stunning! Her fabrics are luxurious and her pieces are timeless. You will want to build this collection for years to come.
Elizabeth McKay designs are full of color, bold prints and sophistication. We especially love the pants outfit, hand-picked for our Smarty winner. If these pants aren’t “Smarty Pants”, then I don’t know what is:-)
You can find Elizabeth McKay at:

Ella B Custom Candles ~ WENDY PETERSON
My go-to gift every holiday season is an Ella B. candle. Partially because we are HUGE fans of local founder, Julie Tassy. And partially because they are just PERFECT and packaged in a precious box with a bow. Whether it’s a neighborhood candle or one of the three holiday fragrances, they make the perfect gift for teachers, neighbors, and girlfriends!
Ella B. Candles are known for the clever neighborhood names, like SouthPark, Myers Park, Foxcroft and more. They are hand-poured with love right here in Charlotte at the “Hive”. Each candle bears a distinctively “Charlotte” name and boasts a delightful, unique fragrance and exceptionally long burn time. Be sure to check out Ella B’s limited edition holiday fragrances: Carolina Christmas, Christmas in Charlotte and Queen City Holiday – these are so festive!
The gift of gifting…Wendy gets to create (6) individually personalized candles for their besties (kinda like our Smarty candle featured above:-)! Brought to you by Ella B. Candles and their amazing new Custom Candle Collection.
The Custom Candle Collection allows you to design online and customize your candles for party favors, holiday sercies, or corporate gifts. You can pick them up at your favorite local Custom Candle Partner store, or get this…they will ship them right to your door!

Erin McDermott/Twin & Twig Collab ~ CHRISTA WEBSTER
One of my favorite local jewelry designers is Erin McDermott. Not only is she one of the nicest (and cutest!) people on the planet, but she creates some of the most spectacular and wearable pieces I’ve ever seen. Her pieces are my go-to for holiday gifts for anyone on your list, special occassions, and little sercies to myself :-). We’re lucky that she’s local – she has been designing her custom jewelry in Myers Park for years.
When Erin teamed up with other FAB Charlotte jewelry designers, sisters Elizabeth White and Jacquelyn Buckner of Twine & Twig – it was a match made in pink & green heaven. Twine & Twig pieces are inspired by a love for the rustic outdoors and the casual calm of the Carolina coast. Featuring naturally sourced materials from around the world, each piece is designed, handcrafted, tied with their signature suede strap and made in their Charlotte-based studio.
The Erin McDermott/Twine & Twig Collab: Christa won this gorgeous necklace!
They created a layering piece based off the Erin McDermott Morning Coffee Necklace and added a handful of signature beads from the Twine & Twig Collection. Tiny gold nugget beads are strung on a cotton bamboo cord to create that lovely piece that is casual, yet unique! Each necklace is adorned with a signature Twine and Twig bead made from bone and other natural materials. This neutral necklace triples as a long necklace, double it up for a shorter necklace, or wrap it around your wrist a few times for a layered bracelet.

Punch Vintage Style ~ ASHLEY HOY
Smarties, this is one of my favorite local finds! Known for her died cow-hide cuffs, Punch Vintage Style pieces are made with heart and soul by local artist, Amy Crawford. Amy oozes cool – she lives on a huge farm and is a lover of the Lord and a hippie chick at heart. She has a variety of vintage cuffs that you can either follow her lead with her bible verses and notes of inspiration. OR, ask her to stamp your cuff with your own words of wisdom. We love stacking our Punch pieces – perfect for carpool, a night out, a morning at barre – you name it!
Ashley won a custom leather cuff (your choice of leather stain color and wording), a customizeable Handcrafted Patina copper dog-tag inspiration necklace,
& a pair of hand made luxuriously soft leather fringe statement earrings.
You can find Punch Vintage Style:
Laura Park Designs ~ TRANG SCHWARTZ
I discovered Laura Park Designs about a year ago and have been drooling over her Instagram feed ever since. Her use of vibrant colors in her paintings and textiles just makes me SO happy, and I love how she creates so many different types of pieces. From beautiful canvases to pillows and blankets, and now clutches, Smarty Charlotte is lucky to have such a gifted artist in our community.
On Laura Park Designs:
Laura Park is a self-taught artist and began painting in 2011. Her abstracts are spontaneous and intuitive. Inspired by colors in nature, textiles and design, she paints with a variety of mediums including acrylics, guache, pastels and oil crayon. Laura’s paintings are vibrant with an engaging energy that make the eye dance along with her brush strokes. Her art can be found in several galleries as well as her new line of textiles and lifestyle products and apparel at www.lauraparkdesigns.com. Live life vividly!
Trang won this gorgeous foldover clutch (available in 7 colors)!

Jacob Foster Designs ~ STEPHANIE TORREZ
Aren’t you curious how ladies like Smarty Mom Kara Dail, the mastermind behind Jacob Foster Designs, comes up with such beautiful creations? She says the idea will just pop in her head. Now that is raw talent! Her pieces are simple and elegant with a touch of whimsy. They are the kind of accessory that take your outfit to the next level.
Jacob Foster Designs was born after Kara decided to leave her professional career to raise her two boys, Eli Jacob and John Foster. (Yep, that is where the name comes from!). It all happened one summer night as she was walking on the DeBordiue beach. At that moment, “a lightbulb went off.” Kara always knew that after leaving her professional career to raise her children she wanted something of her own making in the future. She was given the advice, “Don’t do it if your heart’s not in it and don’t do it to make money.” Well, Kara, I am here to tell you, your heart shines through your work. Each piece embodies classic elements with a touch of Bohemian whimsy. When I look at your necklaces, it evokes a found memory…a trip to the mountains, a walk on the beach or a serene moment of feeling peace.
Here are some fun new pieces from the Jacob Foster bracelet collection:

Inna Eckman – Artaccent ~ KATIE CHRISTY
I love Instagram! This is how I found Inna Eckman. It was typical day. I was waiting in my car for the twins to get out of preschool. I decided to check my Instagram feed and their it was – this image of a house. It wasn’t a perfectly staged photograph of a house that I was used to seeing repeatedly. It was a watercolor of somebody’s home. It felt warm and inviting. I was captivated! The painting felt happy. I decided to investigate further and to my surprise, the artist lives right here in Charlotte. I am in awe over work. She not only paints people’s home, she paints families.
Meet, Inna Eckman, Artist & Owner of Artaccent. She is a mother of five children, Wife, and Believer. Her Art Shop was officially in August of 2014; however, she has been creating Art since she was a young child. She specializes in Custom Watercolor Illustrations and Digital Illustrations. “Although my work is portrait-like in appearance, my finished art is intended to only be a likeness of the item being illustrated; it is not intended to be a portrait or replica. I strive to work closely with all of my clients to generate the perfect illustration that can be proudly framed and displayed or shared on digital channels.” Smarties, I am over the moon excited about this giveaway!
Katie gets to choose an 8×10 watercolor illustration of your house, family (5-6 family members), or wedding.

Kiel James Patrick ~ TRICIA MAGEE
Smarties, I would like to take a moment and formerly introduce you to Kiel James Patrick. I am certain you recognize the name. We have partnered with them in several of our giveaways – pearl necklace, pearl bracelet, sailor’s knot necklace, dog bandannas. I love, love, love KJP! Their style is preppy to the core. There is not one item on their website that I would not buy. That is big because, according to my husband, I am the hardest person to buy gifts for. Just read how they describe their brand:
“Inspired by the rugged charm of New England, KJP takes pride in creating timeless American-made fashion and accessories. Each product has a story, a season, and a rich heritage in American craftmanship. Through vibrant, idyllic lifestyle imagery, the Kiel James Patrick brank awakens memories of carefree days by the coast wearing sea-shrunken rope bracelets, crisp fall nights around a bonfire layered in plaid shirts and sweaters celebrating holiday traditions in bowties and pearls, and seaside jaunts in boat shoes on the first warm day of spring.”
You had me at timeless American-made fashion and accessories! Who doesn’t want to resemble Jackie – O’s style?! They recently debuted a line of flannel dresses that sold out within the first couple of days. You are probably thinking – seriously, flannel dresses. They were amazing – belted, fit and flare design, ruffle collar with the most desired plaids. Brilliant! Another favorite of mine is the Darling Skirt. The most fitting name for what I am about to describe to you. The have taken the classic plaid skirt, given it a slightly higher waist (YES!), added pockets (SOLD!) and most importantly, they created a plaid that embraces color. Smarties, I love all things navy and a red plaid; but, sometimes, it is fun to mix it up. This skirt does just that.
Let me introduce you to our giveaway item, the Darling Skirt/ Cookies and Eggnog.
The most darling skirt ever,
Fit for holiday cheer.
To wear ’round the tree,
With the ones you hold dear.
Pair this skirt with a pair of boots, and a sweater and you are good to go – a style that is easy and polished!
Tricia won her very own Darling Skirt/Cookies and Eggnog!

Sant & Abel ~ SARAH HERNDON
“Sleep with personality. Sleep with Quality.”
True Story: we were staying at a major hotel at Disney world. Just imagine, families coming and going at all hours. It was a super busy time of the year. The boys and I were in the room getting organized for our day. My husband was out making the necessary coffee run. That is when it happened, there was a knock at the door. I immediately thought it was my husband with my coffee. Nope. I stepped out slightly in the hallway and bam! The twins shut the door behind! I could hear them giggling as I stood there in the hallway with my not-sooo-smarty pj’s on (husband’s boxer shorts and an old tee). Thank the Lawd, my husband was there in seconds. Lesson learned.
Smarties, this is where the Sydney brand Sant & Abel comes in to the picture. Sant & Abel make the most beautiful pajamas. Right now, I am completely crushing on their entire Braddock Collection. My favorite – the classic oversized boyfriend shirt. You can never go wrong with a luxurious Night Shirt. The Braddock Night shirt is a classic. There is no detail missed. From the material, lightweight pure cotton poplin, to the design, signature blue pin stripe with contrasting pink piping lining the six buttons, rounded collar for an added element of femininity, piping detail on the cuffs, and a chest pocket perfect for monograming, it is perfection!
Sarah won the Braddock Night Shirt featured above!

Parker & Thatch ~ AMIE COLLINS
“Effortless style comes from knowing yourself.”
Parker Thatch, formerly iomoi, was established in 2002 by husband wife team, Irene Chen and Matthew Grenby. Each personalized bag design is designed by Irene and finished in the US. All graphics are hand drawn by Matthew. Items are crafted from the heaviest weighted canvas (because it must stand up on its own to be worthy of becoming your welcome companion).
I was initially led to the Parker and Thatch website because of their adorable sleep masks. Little did I know what I would discover. They have so, so, so, so much more. I love absolutely everything on their website – yes, everything!
Right now, I am crushing on several of their things. First, let’s chat about their sleep masks. Super Cute! I especially love how they can be personalized. Second, their tennis bag – have you seen it? It is a throwback to my early tennis days. Pair it with a pair of Stan Smiths and you are golden. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! Third, the Customizable Totes (any of their canvas bags or accessories). They have taken this bag on tour and it has been a blast seeing all the different customizations people come up with as they document on instagram.
Amie won an eye mask – the original item that drew me to discovering Parker & Thatch – AND, another one of my favorites, the Envelope Clutch (featured above)!
You can purchase Parker Thatch items directly from their website:
Bixby & Co. ~ ERIN DEAN
Smarties, I feel like I need to apologize. I have been holding back on you. I have known about Bixby & Co. for two years now and have kept it to myself. So, to make up for it, we have partnered with Bixby to bring you this amazing gift bag full of ALL their goodies.
It went down like this – you know when you are out and about with your kids and you want to grab a bite. Just a little something to hold you over until your next meal. You don’t just want anything. You want something that tastes good and is good for you. That is when it happened! It was summer, we were downtown Rockland visiting the Schooners. With my twins in tow, we walked over to Main Street Markets and that is where I saw it – The Bixby Bar. At first, I was intrigued with the clever packaging. Yes, I will admit, I am one of those people that judges a book by its cover. Then, as I always do, I started reading the packaging a little bit closer – female-owned, gluten free, vegan…Indulge, Satisfy, Energize mixed with a creative combination of ingredients. I was SOLD! They are delicious. I love each flavor, but, if I had to pick a favorite it would be — the Dark Chocolate, Maine Sea Salt, Wild Maine Blueberry Cashew Whippersnapper. Fast forward a couple of months, I returned to Maine with my family to celebrate the holidays. That is when I discovered Bixby & Co.’s Drinking chocolate. Smarties, this is the BEST hot chocolate I have EVER had! It is made with rich dark chocolate with subtle hints of cinnamon. My mouth is watering as I type this…It is a must try!
I am a true fan of all their confectionaries: Bixby Bars, Drinking Chocolate, Bixby Bites, and the Bean to Bar Chocolate. I love their mission! It is a snack that I can feel good about eating. It is a snack I feel good about giving to my kids. Here is some more background information:
On Bixby & Co.:

Brynn Hudson Jewelry ~ TERRI JEFFRIES
“I have always desired jewelry that was versatile; it had to be something that I could throw on when going to the grocery store in my workout clothes but also elegant and graceful enough to be worn to a black-tie event.” ~ BHJ
Brynn Hudson Jewelry was one of those beautifully random instagram finds. I never understand how instagram places certain accounts in your feed. I am sure there is some sort of algorithm. Whatever it is or however it happens, I am super excited to have found Brynn Hudson Jewelry!
Her collections embody a modern edge based in classical style. People and phrases, I would use to describe BHJ are Palm Beach Chic, Old Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. La Senorita Jolie ~ SUSAN O’NEILL
I first learned about La Senorita Jolie (LSJ) through, my bestie, Caranna. Every time we would meet up, Caranna always looked so effortlessly polished and put together. I would ask her, “Where did you get that top/belt/dress?” The answer was always and still is, “It’s from LSJ.”

Each season, I anxiously anticipate what she will come out with next. Right now, I am basically obsessed with their graphic tanks and t’s. I love them! They capture a feminine element that, so many t’s are lacking. BIG FAN!

Revival Hair Lounge ~ LIZ MATTOX
Smarties, I am always reading comments on various Charlotte Mom/Tribe Facebook pages about “who does the best color??” and “who can turn a brunette into a blonde?” or “who can fix my color?” and “who can cut my hair to look like this?”… The comments are endless. The answer is simple, Revival Hair Lounge, because this dynamic duo can do it ALL!
Meet Jeremy Dean (Cutting Specialist) and Sonya Alexis (Color Specialist), owners of the Revival Hair Lounge. It has almost been five years since they first opened the doors to their salon. I can’t imagine a world without Revival Hair Lounge. Jeremy gives the perfect cut allowing Sonya to work her magic by adding color and each time the client leaves feeling more beautiful than when she walked in. I love that Sonya blends the color so meticulously that it looks natural. Long story short – I have had some serious doozies done to my hair – poodle perm in the 80s, flop of seagulls short on one side long on the other…this kind of thing will damage you when you are young. You lose trust in those holding the scissors. Well, I let Jeremy cut off at least 6 inches of my hair. THAT IS BIG! I trust him completely. They are truly wizards at their profession!
Recently, Jeremy and Sonya decided to expand from their “suite” life into their very own storefront. As a strong team of four (Jeremy, Sonya and stylists, Heather Crank and Marissa Reed), they pride themselves on a luxurious experience without pretension.
“Our ‘slow beauty’ approach means we give each guest the attention they deserve. An intimate experience, wine, laughter, and beautiful hair.” And that is exactly what they do. Smarties, Revival Hair Lounge is a cut above the rest.
Liz won a cut and Awapuhi Keritriplex treatment, OR a basic color treatment. This gift is valid only January-February 2018.
You can find Revival Hair Lounge:
Emily Ley ~ DENA SCHRAFF
One of my all-time favorite gifts to give and receive for the holidays is a book. Not just any book. A meaningful thought provoking book. A book with the recipient in mind. Well, I am here to tell you I found two of those books. And not only are they beautifully bound hardbacks, they are filled with words that embrace and inspire women.
Grace, not Perfection: Embracing Simplicity, Celebrating Joy
This book will change your life whether what stage of life you are in… stay at home mom, working mom, empty nester, young professional or grandmother. This book is for you! Emily’s words will guide you to live a more authentic life. A life full of grace.
A Simplified Life: Tactical Tools for Intentional Living
This book was JUST released. I am patiently waiting for mine to arrive and after reading all the reviews, I simply cannot wait!
-“A Simplified Life is one of a kind”
-“…makes you feel you are not alone in your struggles.”
“…infused with sincerity and love.
-“Must read for every woman who feels drained by expectations.”
-“Emily speaks straight from the heart.”
Also, who would like to meet the mastermind behind these two beautiful books? Emily is coming to Charlotte on her A Simplified Life book tour Friday, January 12th at Swoozies. I promise to keep in tune with details as I find out more information. I will be there!!
Emily has a treat for YOU, Smarties!
