Smarties, I have a treat for you. I recently caught up with Jenna DaPolito, a Pure Barre Instructor at the Ballantyne location. You are going to love, love, love her to the core! She is patient, kind and one of the best instructors I have ever had! Her workouts are hard. Her playlists are AHmaze. (I totally want her arms!) She will guide you at the same as she pushes you to reach your best potential. You will leave her class a hot mess. But, you will feel accomplished and strong. Jenna is DEFINITELY a name you look for on the schedule!
Let’s get to know more about Jenna.
Name: Jenna DaPolito
Married to: Jason
Children: Dominic & Nolan
Hometown: Buffalo, NY
Years in Charlotte: 10
Occupation: Stay at home mom, Pure Barre Instructor & Owner of Christmas Lighting Supply
How long have you been an instructor at Pure Barre? 2 years in February
What attracted you to the Pure Barre workout?
When I signed up for my first class didn’t really know what I was getting into. All I knew was I had to jump back into ‘it’ after having my second child but I wasn’t sure what ‘it’ was. I tried a few different workouts around Charlotte and then I took a Pure Barre class. I loved the shake and the burn and the awesome sore feeling afterwards, I felt motivated and energized and I was hooked. I remember walking down the stairs after leaving class and my knees just buckled, it was so great to see a workout using low weights and my own resistance could be so amazing and effective. It was the best thing I’ve done for myself.
Have you noticed any differences in your physique since you started teaching barre?
Most definitely. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. Not only have I gained more strength in my core I have also seen a huge difference in flexibility.
Have you always been involved in fitness?
Yes! I was the tomboy sporty girl growing up. I got my start playing baseball with the boys and was one of the only girls in the league. I played every sport I could but my heart was always on the ball field. I later switched over to softball and played at the collegiate level.
What are your best tips for staying on track with your fitness plan?
Make a routine and hold yourself accountable! You and your health should always be a priority. Some of the most important appointments are the ones you make with yourself.
Do you have a favorite brand of leggings? Sports bra?
What is the current playlist that you are crushing on?
I really love EDM for working out. It keeps me pumped up and energized.
What is your favorite go-to snack?
Hard boiled eggs or peanut butter and pretzels
Do you have a favorite protein shake?
A Chocolate Peanut butter shake is one of my all-time favorites. (1 scoop Chocolate protein powder, 2 tablespoons of PB2, 1 cup of Almond milk, ½ cup vanilla yogurt and a cup of ice)
What is the key to being successful at a barre workout?
Make a commitment to go at least 4 times a week for your first month. After a month, you will not only understand the flow and movements in class, but you will notice a difference in the way you look and feel. I also suggest getting to know the instructors and don’t be afraid to ask questions, that’s what we are here for!
Tell us about your life outside of Pure Barre.
What does your typical day look like?
I’m a morning person! I’m up early to either workout or run before my two boys wake up. On the days they go to school you can find me on my computer trying to think of creative social media content for our holiday business, making trips to UPS or running errands. At lunchtime my “free-time” is over and I pick up my boys from school. After lunch we usually
spend the afternoon outside riding bikes, having a drawing contest (that I have yet to win) or heading to the pool/playground. Then dinner, baths and bedtime for not only them but me too!
How old are your boys?
3 & 4
How do you manage being a working mom with two little ones?
It’s hard but I try to utilize my free time as best I can. There are never enough hours in the day. When I do have some time, I have to make the best of it! I’ve come to realize some days are more productive than others and I’ve learned to accept that.
Do you work outside of teaching at Pure Barre?
I do! My husband and I own Christmas Lighting Supply a holiday lighting and decor company we started about 8 years ago. We serve both commercial and residential community. Just this year, we moved into a larger warehouse with a showroom right near downtown Waxhaw. We dedicate the work week to our online customers but on weekends we are now open to the public.
