It was a novel performance!
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte has once again AH-MAZED me with another performance. I can’t believe that I almost missed this one! Somehow our family schedule cleared up and we could go. I swear every kid my twins know was born in March and early April- Sheesh, it’s been a busy month. Honestly, I think it was divine intervention. Hands down, this is my FAVORITE performance of the season. The cast brought this story to life in a way I haven’t seen before. Let’s face it, we all know that the book is better in most cases than the movie/play. In this case, you not only have an excellent novel —you have a novel performance!
The stage design was brilliant. It was very minimal. Forcing the audience to focus entirely on the characters and the story. It was captivating!
The cast brought their A-game! Devin Clark (Bud) stole the show. His expressions said it all. He was Bud! You immediately fell in love with this character. From the start, you were routing for him.
I left with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. My heart was broken and full at the same time. I loved, loved, loved it.
Bravo to you, Cast & Creative Team – Job well done!
Story Synopsis
Set in Depression-era Michigan, Bud Caldwell is 10 years old, and is tired of living life as an orphan. He decides to set off on his own on a courageous journey to find the man he thinks is his father. But the only evidence Bud has is a picture of a man on jazz concert advertisements his mom used to keep around the house.
