Over 2,000 years ago, Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi opined, “Leap into the boundless and make it your home.” He never explained how to convince oneself that the boundless is indeed the place one needs to be; however, his words could be humans’ earliest reference to our modern-day title for people who see the value in something new right before it takes off. We call these people “Early Adopters.” These are the people who are considered the lighthouse in a community for non-profits and businesses alike. These Early Adopters shine a light on a new opportunity, a new product, or a new restaurant, and they recommend it friends, colleagues, and neighbors to follow their lead.
Early Adopters are often viewed as edgy trendsetters with a certain “it” factor, yet only 14% of the general population falls into this group. If the new and untested makes you cringe, you are not alone.
A popular story in my family centers on a time when my husband wanted to invest in Apple. It was right before the iPhone was released, and he just knew this was going to be big. He had done his research, and he had money to invest. However, he did not have the chutzpah to make the call to buy the stocks. He needed some guidance from Zhuangzi, but it never appeared. To this day, he still tracks the money he would’ve made if only he’d picked up the phone. Our three sons love that story and re-tell it often with a twinkle in their eye mostly because they believe they’d never make the same mistake that their dad made. What would you have done?
I’m the founder of an innovative charter school that will open its doors to 200 Kindergarten-3rd grade students this coming August. VERITAS Community School is bringing a health and wellness model to Charlotte that has been tried and tested by our partner school, Namaste Charter School, in Chicago for the last 11 years. They’re the highest-achieving charter school in Chicago out of 64 charter schools in the city. Our model addresses the needs of the whole child—academic, physical, and socio-emotional. We can’t wait to get started!
Are you unhappy with your child’s school choice or know someone who is? Visit http://www.VERITASCommunitySchool.com to see how we will meet and exceed the needs of all children.
Our vision is to create change agents for the next generation. Will you be a VERITAS Early Adopter? Join me, my wonderful teachers, energetic staff, and all the parents who’ve already taken the leap by enrolling your child today. We still have a few seats left, and we’d love for your child to secure one of them.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I’m always happy to talk to parents.
