Hello Smarties! It is the end of June (can you believe it?) and that brings the 4th of July! The weekend is full of activities to celebrate our nation’s Independence. Our parks are also offering a variety of programs as is ImaginOn. If you haven’t checked out the new and improved Discovery Place, this could be the weekend. Enjoy the long holiday weekend. A Year with Frog and Toad

Spend a morning with these two beloved best friends as they go through the trials and tribulations together. Meet their friends Snail, Turtle and Lizard as they learn to plant seeds, eat cookies and take a hair-raising ride on a bobsled. There’s even a little Christmas in July. This musical is presented by CPCC Summer Theatre. Cost is $7 children, $10 adults.

Join us in celebrating American Independence at the annual 4th of July Festival. Treat your ears to the sounds of bands like Simplified, Acoustic Syndicate, and Eric Lindell while you enjoy AllSport activities. We will be serving up a stunning Class V Fireworks display on both Saturday and Sunday: each night the fireworks will launch over our river from Hawk Island. Matthews Fun Family 4th of July
July 3, Bike decorating at 5:30pm, parade at 6:00pm, concert at 7:00pm
Come decorate your bikes, scooters and wagons with 4th of July items provided by Matthews Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resource Department. Then join us in the Peoples Parade, a non-motorized parade from Matthews Station St. to Stumptown Park. The evening will be capped off with a performance by “Too Much Sylvia”.

Parade starts at 10 a.m. in downtown Waxhaw with Grand Marshall Calvin Brock a 2000 Olympian Heavyweight USA Boxer. Evening entertainment is a Red, White & Blues Music Festival with RJ Adams, Old Hat Revival, Kim Klaudt and more. For the kids we have face painting, bouncies, a balloon twister, etc. For everyone a food court with BBQ, Hot Dogs, Ice Cream, Funnel Cakes and more. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 pm. Celebrate 4th of July with friends and family in Center City Charlotte with an afternoon of outdoor fun! The US Airways Family Fun Festival kicks off the evening with sack races, giant inflatable slides, watermelon eating and tug of war contests. Grab a bite to eat from one of the many food vendors on site! A spectacular fireworks show also kicks off in the evening so bring your blanket and get a spot on the lawn. This free festival is alcohol-free and features plenty of parking nearby.

Cornelius July 4th Celebration

Join us on the Town Hall lawn for a fun and laid-back evening as we celebrate Independence Day! Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the stylings of Robin Burke and guest. Robin is a local favorite, whose repertoire features the hits of the 70’s and 80’s. We will also host children’s activities, including rides on a trackless train, spin art and more. At 8:30pm, all activities will draw to a close as we prepare our blimp screen for a showing of recent blockbuster Avatar (will begin at approximately 8:45pm). Concessions available all evening.
