“Mommy-ness” … You know what I’m talking about – when it’s “mommy this” and “mommy that” and MOMMY, MOMMY, MOMMY!!??? My husband and I can literally be standing right next to each other and it’s “Mommy, can you please get me something to drink?” or “Mommy, will you help me get a toy down?” or even “ma ma ma ma ma …” from the little one. This is by no means a slam on my husband – he is always there to help out, it’s just the default request is always for mommy. And it’s so hard to say no, especially when they look at me with those sweet little eyes!
“Mommy, I want YOU to put me to bed” or even just “Mommy, come look at this!” I guess I should feel flattered that my kids think mommy can do things best (ha!) but lately, it has been wearing me out! I mean, seriously, why does Mommy always have to wipe the poopy bottom?? But the best was just the other day (and what prompted me to write this post) … I was visibly busy folding laundry and packing to go out of town for the weekend when Jake came in and asked “Mommy, will you please read me a story?” So I very sweetly replied, “Mommy is busy right now, why don’t you go ask Daddy?”
“But Daddy’s busy, too.” which I knew was not true since I just let him off the hook from packing not 5 minutes ago.
“No he’s not …”
“Yes, he is … Daddy’s busy watching golf”!!! I mean, Really??
Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my kids and actually cherish that special time at night when Jake and I cuddle up in bed and talk about our days after reading a book or when Ryanne and I just sit and rock. I’m just talking about some equal time for Daddy 🙂
How to beat “mommy-ness”? Well, Daddy is a HUGE help – always ready to jump in! But the hardest is when they insist it has to be Mommy, then I secretly whisper in Jake’s ear that Daddy would really like to put him to bed one time and it would make him really happy if you’d ask him. Works like a charm 🙂 And if all else fails, I suggest removing yourself from the situation – perhaps a little GNO? We’ve had some reader requests for some smarty deals on happy hours around town. Someone sent me this great little site … not fancy, but gets the job done. charlottehappyhour.com – click on a particular day of the week and then area you’re interested in and VOILA – all the happy hour specials in that area. Cheers!
